newbie, neds advice...FAST
hi guys, just joined this site & may or may not need it in the future, heres why.
I have the oppertunity to buy a classic roadster cobra kit, almost all the parts are there except the windshield, door, wiring, trunk lid ,hood & doors. all other components are intact, no drivetrain. the owner wants like 4 grand for it & I have until tonight to make up my mind. ] so I ask you experts, how is a classic roadster to assemble? how are the parts availability on them for what I need & do they use a mustang fox body as a donor or is averything different? help me make this descision guys. is this kit worth 4 grand? the chassis is also there but no suspension |

Sounds like a LOT of stuff missing and I hate to do business with anyone who says "its now or never" (assuming it is the seller that is creating the time pressure). I would walk away. |
I have to agree with Gary. It's a "buyer's market" right now so there's absolutely no rush to make a decision. Traditionally the winter months will produce more cars on the market than any other period. Check out www.cobracountry in the For Sale section. There are some really decent buys and if you're game, look at ebay under Shelby Cobra. Once the eye strain subsides, you'll realize that you have many choices readily available.

If I could get my hands on another CR kit for $4k, even missing a few parts, I'd grab it in a heartbeat!
Why? Have one completed and on the street for 2 years now. They're great! Send me your e-mail to jwalsh21@ix.netcom.com and I'll send you pix of the completed kit on the street. If you have the basic CR kit, your brain has not yet been poisoned as to what to assemble the rest of the kit with. Now that CR Gary Rutherford, Leisure Industries (fiberglass boats) has sold the entire CR car line to Don Scott of Minnesota Classics, a savvy veteran CR builder, The bad rap CR has taken (deservedly) is turning around. The CR is a solid piece of hardware that with an attention to detail build, should last 20, 30, or 50 years. Go to the CR section of this forum (Don Scott & Double Venom) and see what other CR owners have to say. But...don't spend a dime on components to complete your car; engine, suspension, drivetrain, steering, brakes, wheels, tires, etc., etc., until you check in here first. You'll have a state-of-the-art car with the combined experience from CR builders and owners who've "been there - done that" what works, and what doesn't. If you do grab this bargain, welcome aboard. |
thanks for the reply, I will not be getting the kit , it was an auction & I was outbid by 5 bucks, (bastards) thanks for the info though, a little too late, I am afraid,
