Bill, thanks for the comments on the JCF. Walt is a stickler for detail and it shows in every aspect of the car, as in the GT40 I bought from Cal Metal. I can't build 'em worth a damn, but I sure can buy 'em!:D
As far as Brock's design abilities, take a look at the underbody modifications Ford deemed necessary to negate lift issues on the new GT: The car has splitters and other devices installed to try and cure the aero faults Ford found when they started testing original GT40s. The Brock Coupe, on the other hand, is aerodynamically similar to the original Daytona, designed almost 40 years ago, yet by the accounts I've read is stable and reassuring even at very high speeds. It's a credit to the hand of a very talented designer, who finalized the shape without the benefit of wind tunnels or computers, using nothing more sophisticated than tufts of yarn taped to the bodywork-- |

Having now had the chance to see the SPF Coupe in the "flesh" at a recent UK Car Show, I am in love. In it's own right the car looks amazingly "together".
I can understand why many folks cannot discern the visual lineage between the 427 roadster and the Coupe - you have to be into the history of the legend to really appreciate it. My only issue here is the UK pricing - full turnkey with Roush 402R stroker Windsor runs to $141,000 and some. At that price it becomes a pretty direct competitor to the new Ford GT, and, immaterial though this is since I can afford neither, the GT is the car I would rather have in my garage. (actually, a Cobra, a GT, AND a Coupe would be nice!). Wilf |
There is one other factor with the new Ford GT-40 (a brilliant car without doubt).
Doubtful you could buy one even if you DID have the money with the exteme competition to purchase and the low volume numbers of production. But you could buy a Coupe! Ernie |

Love that color scheme with Viking blue my second choice
The white has a blue stripew/small red stripes on each side--was raced by Ford of France with either the 56# or 98# Painting one that way and getting around some of theseguys one would probably get a lot grief because "it's a French color":LOL: |

Ron- the Contemporary Daytona Coupes replicas have been around for years and in my opinion are still the most original looking fiberglass replicas. The HDR car is a nice coupe replica also. I am not impressed by either FFR or Superformance renditions' of the original coupe, visually speaking.

Speaking of screaming--the "Ford of France" Daytona (CSX2300) surely did scream at Monterey. That thing sounded like a NASCAR stocker when it came out of the Corkscrew. It was well in control of the race in the capable hands of John Morton until the clutch broke. The other Daytona in the picture was driven by Derek Bell and is actually a McCluskey Daytona built on an original 289 Cobra frame. I just picked up the latest issue of Octane magazine at lunch and, lo and behold, there is an article by Bell on driving the car at Monterey. He says he much prefers the Coupe over the roadster because the Coupe body greatly reduces chassis flex. Interesting that he keeps referring to the car as the "AC Cobra Coupe", a moniker that will surely result in some letters to the magazine--:3DSMILE:

I have learned that from the other Red, Blue and Yellow surprises in the past. I wasn't sure of it the first time, so I had to verify that was the casue three times after that. Now... I am certain that's what caused it. But, now that I think about it, confirming it might be something that should be done so there is no question if anyone ever asks me... good idea. Randall |

SPF604 - You have good taste. I also came very close to buying that blue slabside. I drooled for weeks when it was posted for sale on CobraCountry, and finally got the wife to agree. When I checked back to get the phone #, it was gone!:CRY: Snakeeyes, I envy you!!! Anyway, I'm a bit out of the market for now, but I have dibs on her if Snakeeyes ever has a complete brain cramp and decides to unload her! BTW, your avatar is the true Confederate flag, right? I'm from West TN, originally, and though you see the battle flag plastered all over the country, its' nice to see the original stars and bars. MysteryTrain, that JCF of that belongs to Snakeeyes is one sharp car! And, you are right, I fly the First National flag of the Confederacy. My great,great grandpa died right here in M'boro on the banks of the Stones River one cold January day in '63 fightin' for his country. I hold the flag of the Old South dear.
Someday, I'd like to have a red 'Brock' Coupe. Make a nice daily driver. |
