I appreciate your sentiments and thoughtful response.
When I bought my car, I worshipped Mr. Shelby and all things Cobra. I've got all the books, videos and registry. One of my first tasks upon becoming a Cobra owner was joining SAAC, buying a t-shirt & listing SAAC as my club affiliation at car shows.
Unfortunately, the last few years have soured me on 'The Spirit of Shelby.'
I'm saddened at the direction that spirit has taken of late.
Since the moderators have asked us to put a sock in our personal axes to grind, I won't elaborate.
I may or may not continue my affiliation with SAAC, but with good folks like you representing the membership, chances are better than 50/50.
Thanks for the pep talk.

2nd year. Proud member!

Norcal SAAC. Was a member for several years and let it lapse, and recently restarted my membership.

I wished we had the old decals though...the Mustang thingy just doesn't work for me.:JEKYLHYDE

SACC and NorCal SAAC! The membership is definitely worth it. You can't go wrong.

I second Jim's observation, as an understatement... Jeff was a cornerstone on which the organization was built...from the get-go....and deserves that recognition. :)

Me?.. on and off member since the early days of Hershey and Great Gorge Nationals.

As car clubs go... you would be hard pressed to find a better "keeper of the flame" organization for vintage marques.

Jim Maxwell and Computerworks. Yep, he is a cornerstone indeed and fellow local club member too. Cobra Jeff has attended EVERY SAAC national event, this year at MIS in July at SAAC-29 will be his 29th ! now, that is SAAC committment , from a very fine guy who would do anything for anyone . Bill

Belonged to SAAC for a couple of years. Got the feeling they considered you a second class citizen if you had a replica.

Yes to SAAC. There is a NorCal-SAAC chapter in my area too...

Sure wish the regular publication that gets sent out had a little more to it though.

Bob,

Out in California this is not the case. There are several SPF's and ERA owned by prominent members. Lewis Downs owns an ERA and Steve Emry the editor of the Club magazine
(Driven) owns a SPF. Top of the Hill, always has 10 to 15 SPF cars out at most event. All of there car are great looking. Many of the board members own a replica in one form or another since open track racing is such a strong component of the club it just makes financial since.

Ohio SAAC member here.

Shelby Cobra Assocation of Texas

Member of SCAT - Shelby Cobra Association of Texas for 3 years now.

I've built their website - www.scatracks.org - and since Jan. 2003 I have edited and printed the monthly newsletter. For 2004 I am on the Board of Directors.

BTW, I don't own a Shelby or a replica. I currently own a '68 Mustang GT Fastback. I hope to own a real Shelby 67 or 68 GT-350 or GT-500 someday. Also looking forward to a Superformance MKIII when my ship comes in.

SCAT's motto is the same as SAAC:

Ownership of a Shelby car is not a requirement to join SCAT. In fact, the only real requirement is a love for the cars and a sincere desire to participate with a very fun group of people. While many of our club activities revolve around an automotive theme, SCAT stresses the social and family aspects or our organization. We routinely sponsor family picnics, tours, and outings...But we also enjoy our cars, too! SCAT folks tend to adhere to Mr. Shelby’s philosophy that his cars, “were made to be driven”...that’s exactly what we do as often as possible!

Yes, as in Shelby Cobra Assocation of Texas.

Period. End of story.

Ah yes, those were the days....I blame it all on people like Alec Garden, Vinny Liska, and Ed Shaw (here in NJ) who I used to hang around with doing odd jobs here and there. Ned Scudder will recognize the names if you don't..............
