Changing out my water temp gauge...

Before I get started on changing out my defective water temp gauge - under warranty, is there anything I may need to know other than draining out some coolant before removing the tube from the motor. I have an SPF with a 418 stroker. The damn water temp went belly up after 330 miles on the odometer.
