Do you tell your wife how much you actually spend on your Cobra

I don't. I have a few cars and I have to admit I spend a lot more on parts and stuff than I've told my wife. Every time a UPS truck comes, the cost I tell my wife is about half of what I actually paid. On the otherhand I don't know how much she spends on cosmetics and clothes. How about you? and what do you tell your wife?

mikiec 12-11-2003 10:00 AM

She knows everything....

To me it's only natural. She is my wife and partner.

It's a lot easier to let the cat out of the bag, than to try and put it back in!

She knows...and the best part, it's o.k. That's one of the reasons I lover her.

Snak Iyz 12-11-2003 10:16 AM

I agree with Mikiec and Fox. The hobby is a lot more enjoyable with everything out in the open. Also, imo, it is much more enjoyable with her involved.

My car is still on order, but I can't wait for the day that she can go for her own little cruise to enjoy the car on her terms. I know she is going to come back with a big grin on her face, which means - she gets it, she now understands why I 'seem so obsessed with the Cobra'. :D Which, in the long run, makes my life easier (and more enjoyable).

I did have to make some initial concessions to get the car, but bargaining is all part of it and she has been completely supportive.

No, she doesn't know however she thinks she does.:D

Woodz428 12-11-2003 10:25 AM

She picked it out and paid for it,what can I say. With all the Ford engine inventory I have, she knows it will all balance out. She's a real Sweetheart, and I'm a very lucky man.

lewismc 12-11-2003 10:59 AM

Tread lightly.

If she doesn't ask, don't tell her. However, if she does, tell her the truth. She's going to find out anyway.

She knows just about everything........except for some "parts" and "toys" I've been ordering for the car (boxes come to the door and she says "is THAT something ELSE for that CAR!?"). She's a great wife, and VERY understanding about my 2 bad habits..... cars and audio / home theater equipment. ........Actually, make that 3 bad habits......GOLF. In the summers, I'm hardly home on the weekends (although I DO hear about THAT!).

simonjrwinter 12-11-2003 11:13 AM

good grief no! can't imagine the trouble I'd be in.
In the UK we have "wife pounds" as in, "I only paid 500wife pounds for this complete new engine"
(guess you guys'll have wife dollars)

How's it go,,,"the truth??? you can't handle the truth!!":JEKYLHYDE

Actually I don't exactly know either, but I told her up front what I was going to spend, and I have exceeded that by about 10%, and she knows that.

Gordon Claunch 12-11-2003 11:40 AM

I agree with mikiec !!

GeorgiaSnake 12-11-2003 12:02 PM

Mine kept the spread sheet updated for me. She has a key to it as well.

Mostly!!

Well, I was totally up front with the initial purchase and have not hidden anything I have bought for the car to date. The boxes come to the house & I don't hide anything from her, or my children. I don't show her all the invoices, but I certainly don't hide them either!
She is well aware that my two new rear tires just cost me over $750, but her feeling is she would rather have me safe! I also don't ask her what she spends and I don't worry about it.
This arrangement seems to work out well for us and I want to keep it that way.

All these things make the car faster and safer.
I have the car because it is fast and fun.
I include her in as many rides as I can, because she also enjoys it.

As we go faster, we need better brakes, better tires, etc.

She also pays the bills, so I'm screwed....

I had wanted a Cobra for 30 years. Figured it was about the only thing i might not get before I died. Back in July we found one, she said buy it. I waited 2 more days to decide. So she knows what it costs. She and my kid's buy me the extra's for gifts. She is the love of my life.

Yeah my lovely lady knows--actually she was a bit miffed when I sold our SPF. She is my friend and partner, wouldn't have it any other way, makes life more enjoyable. She has done our books for so long I wouldn't be able to keep anything from her anyway--get this she has more than one time mentioned recently she wants to get an RV and an Enclosed trailer to haul our new Cobra and go "land Cruising" and she loved driving the SPF.

As a local radio show say's (Garage Logic on AM1500, you can listen on the internet), there are 3 prices for everything. The price you pay, the price you say you pay and the price you pay when she finds out what you really paid.

TERRY M KRYSTOFIAK 12-11-2003 05:44 PM

I don't have any problem with my wife knowing how much I have invested. She is really good about that kind of thing. It's me that doesn't want to know the total.
