Which Cobra would you buy.
If you had a choice between SPF.,FF.,ERA.or CSX Cobra all for the same cost say about 42K. Which would you chose! And would resale value be a factor in your decision.

ERA or CSX - way before the other's

I love my E-M, but if I had it do over again, I'd go with ERA
|
1) the one I fit in best, if that's an issue
2) CSX because nothing will trump the brand-name 3) ERA because they're well-built, but don't have the brand unfortunately. I'd consider resale in the back of my mind, but not as a primary determinant. |

Contact the Shelby American in Las Vegas, and that's not the sale price, it's what all the SAI dealers are offering, at least that's the eMail flurry as of late. Haven't had the opportunity to see one of these yet, but they claim it's true, just place your order. I also have great hopes that the SA CSX cars work out well for people, but even those will be much more than 42K once fitted with heart, lungs, and other appendages. A Shelby is a Shelby even though other cars may be equally capable or well-engineered, I think they'll always be worth more. In that regard, the Kirhams' are quite spectacular, but waaay more money.
For $42K, Unique or ERA. Nice cars....nice reliable people to deal with after the sale......even if you bought a used one from someone else. |
Don't think this a very fair question as you'll won't find a new CSX or ERA for $ 42,000 (less engine/trans) and if you do I'd check real quick on what is missing or what options are not included. Just can't believe all the people that put down all those deposits on those $ 39.900 CSX cars with out seeing one and to date only one car came out???????????Ouch!

42 without an engine or tranny... And about 500 hours of labor to get it ready to run.

Michael, I don't know anything about this car except the owner showed up on the Unique Forum recently. He seems frustrated with little issues on the car, but you're right, if it is as advertised, and thus far we have no reason to believe not, the engine alone is worth $20K.

CSX then ERA....I can't say anything about the SPF as I don't have any experience with them.

Unique is certainly right there in quality with ERA, SPF, and in all but name SAI. My car has been displayed at Carlisle with ERA's, SPF's and everyone elses displays. I had several people tell me that I had the most detailed and finely finished Cobra they had ever seen. Before I bought the Unique, I had narrowed my search down to SAI, SPF, and Unique. I eliminated SAI based on the higher cost for a less complete kit. SPF ran a close second. They are a very nice car. I finally decided on Unique because I wanted to build my own. Later, |
Having worked my way up over the years to the (excuse my blushes) top of the Cobra replica heap here in the UK (bang the drum for Crendon), if I were to be back in the market, at the price point being discussed, I would say there could be little argument - CSX. I assume that the actual cars, when delivered, live up to expectations, but the CAV GT40 is rather nice, so I can't see why the Cobras should not be.

I was also surprised by Pat's statement. Obviously, we all carry our biases, and it depends on how any particular car was built, what components, etc. especially those built at home. I've seen some doggy ERAs and there are no doubt doggy Uniques running around too. But, to say Unique's do not "compare" favorably is a bit of a stretch. Unique also offers turn-key cars of very high quality, with high quality components (but you can't get one of those new for $42K either).
My bias is obvious, and we all rationalize our choices, but my turn-key car has been evaluated very highly by a number of extremely knowledgeable sources. I wouldn't compare it to an aluminum-bodied car, except in terms of performance, but it has stacked up very well against any other glass car. It is also closer to the CSX body style than many glass cars. |
