Jag brake upgrade
I have a Contemporary Cobra with Jag E type brakes. I would like to upgrade the braking system to vented rotors, new calipers and pads. Is there an easy bolt-on upgrade for the front brakes ie. vented rotors, calipers, etc. Does Wilwood make brakes that fit on Jag spindles? What about the master cylinder? Where would I get the parts to do this upgrade? Thanks, Ron.

Ron,
I wanted to do the same thing. I designed my own caliper brackets and rotor hats to use Wilwood calipers and rotors. Currently rotors are mounted and caliper brackets are at the machine shop. If you have S1 front suspension then what I have should work. If interested let me know and I will get a price from the shop to make another set. I can tell you what dimensions are needed to confirm the fit and send you pics of what I have also. Dave |
Ron,
I did the same as Dave did. I made my own mounting brackets and am using Wilwood superlights with 12.19 vented rotors. That's the largest rotor you can use inside a 15" wheel. I may go to the new six piston Superlights this year. On the rear I am running Wilwood Dynalights with brackets I bought from Concours West Industries. BTW no such thing as too much brakes on a Cobra. RD |
Amen, Crankster. I bought a Wilwood set-up with all the brackets, etc., included a few years back for my Contemporary, but I think the outfit disappeared. You might try contacting a few of the major Jag part houses in Hemmings. Some sell these kits for upgrading original Jags.

I also looked into this upgrade extensively....but with my limited shop , I did not want to jump into fabricating brackets etc...
what I was able to determine was...Nobody makes anything for s-1 front ends,... the easy solution is to use s-2 or s-3 uprights...then there are several bolt up sets of brakes available.. No, I havnt done either yet.. Seaman , let me know as well... barely stopping ..KK |

Thanks Tom.....You just found a winter project for me. KK |
Jag brakes are just plain bad!
I went Wilwood and will never look back! 300% improvement...:3DSMILE: |
Hey Ron, Kris and Pat did real nice upgrades to their Jag brakes per the Classic Jag link. Vented rotors, bigger calipers all bolt on stuff, it's a nice kit but pricey. I see they have a special on it at the moment though. Jeffs CCX (above) we did a CSX style dual brake masters with the floor mounted pedal box. Made caliper brackets for it and his Jag solid rotors are doing real nicely with all the Wilwood stuff on them, calipers masters etc. I'm making the brackets and pedal boxes for these here http://www.actoncustom.com, drop by and take a look. You need to see my new toy anyway!

I just went through and upgraded my Jag front for the 2nd time. I made new hubs to suit a hat style rotor as there are more performance rotors readily availble in this style. The ventilation on the hat style is also better in my opinion.
I made my own hubs but Willwood or one of the other brake kit manufacturers will probably be able to supply hubs to suit the Jag spindles. I also went with radial mount calipers because I reckon they are easier to make mounts for than lug mounting. There's probably a few pics in my gallery of making caliper mounts. Here's the tread I did on the front brake setup: Jag front brake conversion Cheers |
Anybody make a kit for the rear? Mine has the Series 1 calipers and I would like to get rid of them and put Wilwoods on it to match the front.
