So if you were the original moderator then I assume there must be a continuation moderator that is envied by non-moderators...

Jamo 12-18-2003 10:40 PM

You really want to be just like Evan, don't you? Went out and got a CSX, a Porsche, etc.

Evan envy?

JWheaton 12-18-2003 10:45 PM

If you can sit on it and in it and it can make noise and be seen from a distance doesn't that make all these cars "real"?

What does real really mean? Where is Wilf? He does a very good job of putting the proper definition around words.

If you I was run over by a Cobra it would Really hurt, but I am not sure if it would have been a real car that hit me or not.

This thread is perfect for my insomnia -- now that is real.

and a Harley.

All I need is a law degree, I am there.

I am NOT moving to NJ. That is where I draw the line!!
I also will not convert.

Jamo 12-19-2003 12:33 AM

You'd look cute with one of them little caps...much better than a fez, and you can have a little propeller on top.

You don't need a law degree...you're already an a$$hole.

John McMahon 12-19-2003 06:03 AM

broken record...broken record....broken rec...

I was the ORIGINAL moderator back in 1999, so all others since then are mere replicas of ME!

I guess you need a Crankoid in the mix to keep things in line. All these Gashole moderators are too PC! **) A Crankoid, would have already locked down the thread, tracked down the offending CC member (in NJ) and took action!.

yes, it's true, JM was known as "the enforcer"way back then....He and his trusty side kick (now a high ranking official in "Da Bunnies" organization) used to keep things in order here...

computerworks 12-19-2003 06:54 AM

...yeah, well... times change.

Keeping things in order takes a lot more work now.

Johan 12-19-2003 07:34 AM

Hey, I didn't know Evan collected WWII stuff ! So do I !
Old army jeeps have been a passion of mine for many years. I have a back yard FULL of them . This changes everyhting...
I bet he is an OK fellow.
Anyway, I think the thread has boiled down to an overall agreement that
1.) Original Cobras are cool.
2.) Any type of reproduction Cobra is cool.
3.) Continuation cars by Shelby and AC are "pretend originals",
real Cobras as defined by SAAC, replicas as defined by Websters, and are cool.
4.) Everyone on the list is cool.
5.) Everyone's car is cool.
6.) This topiic gets the most responses , which is sort of a shame when there are so many other more worthy topics of discussion, like "how do I put my clutch in" , which gets about 2 replies.

Everyone have Happy holidays, drive safe, and Happy New Year.

RACER X #99 12-19-2003 07:35 AM

Ron,
You are probably correct, back in 99 CC was mostly car guys who built their own cars from the available kits. Today it is more guys who have to have the best available today and are quick to lay down large sums to have a better than the other guys Cobra. Most of the original regulars rarely post as the "Club" has been taken over by those with deeper pockets.
Performance car ownership used to be the hobby of gearheads but now is turning into the hobby of choice for those who can't identify a gear.

Well there's an overly simplistic explanation. There's probably some truth to it, but my, what a wide brush we paint with . . .

computerworks 12-19-2003 07:49 AM

Crank, you have valid points...but with the wrong conclusion.
I think you're looking thru the wrong end of the telescope.

The hobby has broadened considerably...techies haven't been replaced by deep-pocket newbies... it's just the population has grown... and there are more sub-groups.

I haven't seen a tech issue not answered here.... the 'wrenches' still read and respond, just like the old days...
...it's just that there is more non-tech traffic than the old days.
More fixation on Evan's fantasy...because it's light stuff.

John,

"Tracked down and action taken"
We're not talking a Columbia Hit Squad are we????

Dan Semko 12-19-2003 08:16 AM

Al,
Ask him about the trailer issue with his neighbor. A hit squad would have been relatively easy in comparison to the Irish wrath.;)

Times Change

Thoughts.....................

First, you would not want me to try and tell anyone how to install a light bulb, much less a clutch. Remember, all of us have opinions, few of us have knowledge.

Second, I certainly fall into the "New Age" CC member category. I am not a gearhead, wrencher, or racer. Yes, I will spend a chunk a change before my car is on the road, more than some, less than others. But, I swear, at no time did the fact that I wanted my car to be better than some guy who happens to post here on CC become a consideration. I would be real surprised if many people buy cars just to be able to brag here at CC (most of us will never even meet face to face). I suspect most spend money to get the car they want (or as close to it as their bank account will allow).

Finally, sparring with Evan is interesting, like a chess match. He's opinionated, bright, and articulate (OK, other adjectives may also apply). But, when you can get him to say, "You're right", you know it's been a good day. People who have strong convictions never bother me, even if I think they're wrong. It's the people who never stand up for anything that I worry about.

Best wishes

casaleenie 12-19-2003 08:41 AM

John,

Something just popped into my head out of the clear blue..
Something about "the trailer issue"? Boy, I don't know where that thought came from.... Would you care to elaborate????

CowtownCobra 12-19-2003 08:42 AM

I will readily admit that my cobra (and it IS a cobra) is really just a street rod based on the original 63-67 cobra. Thats the way I built it, thats the way I want it, and I'm happy as hell with it. Did I stray too far? BFD! I didn't build it to impress anyone else as an original, I built it to please myself. And most people can't tell the difference anyway.

I guess there's 2 kinds of cobra owners, the absolute authentic fanatics, and the custom car (based on a cobra) builders.

Can't we all just,,uh,,uh,,get along?

Dan Semko 12-19-2003 08:44 AM

It had something to do with "The Contessa" but I'm really not sure who was REALLY making the animal screams.;)

John McMahon 12-19-2003 08:52 AM

It's nice to know some of the old wise asses still remain...

..about the trailer....I have a signed letter from the township zoning board rep that I am well within my rights as a homeowner to have the trailer where it is. I also stipulated in this letter, any further discussion about this issue and I will take both the neighbor and the township to court for harrassment as well as abuse of office (since my neighbor works as an attorney part time w/ the township).

Update Dan: The Contessa, being the Socailist that she is, is long gone after her tirade against America after 9/11. I am soon to be engaged (by end of year) to Der Fraulein, a great woman that I love dearly.

Yup, Evan is interesting all right, nice guy in person...I just wish he'd stop reading the same script. It's getting a bit repetitive!

All in good fun!
