A real tree, just for the "Fresh Pine Scent!" If you put down an old sheet under the tree, it catches the needles that fall off the tree. Much easier!

I'll take a a good old fashioned artificial tree anyday! Yep, something from Sears, where America shops. Oh, you can have your plain white light trees, but I like the ones that have the many different colored lights, for that real extra special Christmas feeling. And what can make this beautiful, life like replica tree come to life??? Why a few cans of real artificial Christmas Tree sent scattered throughout the house for your easy finger spraying delights. Yes, real trees nolonger look real, or they are just too darn expensive. The replicas are better, and many time cheaper then the real ones that only last a short while.

Where we buy ours (Lions Club) they give us a plastic "Tree Condom" that rests around the bottom of the tree during the season and then you pull it up around the tree when the season is over and you carry it out , most of the needles are contained in the tree condom. We like the pine smell also.

Up until this year, we had personally used up a forest in real trees. Cheerleader decided the sounds coming out of my mouth each year as I struggled to mount the tree on the stand and bring it through the front door (I never bought less than a 12 footer, me being of the "big is better" school) was not entirely in keeping with the Xmas spirit.
She went out and bought the most amazing replica tree I've ever seen. Cost a pretty penny, but it'll pay for itself in a few years. There is the additional benefit of the 8 cats leaving it alone.

You joke about a plastic tree but my youngest daughter has one. Complete with painted on ornaments. She has had it since she was at OU (University of Oklahoma) in a dorm room. Now she is in an apartment with not much more space than she had in college.
By the way it is a blow up Christmas tree and easy to store from year to year.

We bought a fake tree this year. Got tired of sorting through the crappy ones the last couple of years and having to pay $70 - $90 for a decent 7 foot tree.
Got it at Costco for $170. 9 footer with 1800 lights pre hung. Just take it out of the box and plug it in. Spend about 1/2 hour fluffing up the branches and it looks damn good. And no bugs. Last year the damn tree had a bunch of slugs crap in it that didn't wash out when I hosed off the tree and they found their way to the carpet.
Kinda funny watching a kid about to open a present and she sees a little slug on it.

Remember those aluminum (non Kirkham/SAI) trees that had the light with the colored wheel, no fiberglass used at all. THEY WERE ORIGINAL No? Then maybe your PARENTS had them. They were good until the color wheel motor froze up. They lent the true spirit of a psycadelic Christmas. Either the color wheel was spinning or you would be after a couple of Egg Nogs.

It stands to reason. Since we tend to burn up a lot of fossil fuel in the Cobras, we can balance it out by being "Green" and buying fako Christmas trees... or wait...aren't the plastic trees made from petro chemicals? Now I'm confused. Shoot! I was hoping to find out that we could really do something environmentally conscious.
By the way, what do you suppose the tree-huggers do for shoes? Obviously they can't wear leather, being animal-based and all, but the plastic stuff is bad too. I guess they can go without in the warm zones, but what about in the frozen North? I guess they wrap their feet in cloth like the Valley Forge guys and wait for their toes to drop off.
Well, all this heavy thinking has tired me out. I think I'll put a couple more logs on the fire and pour myself a single malt to celebrate the close of another end-of-the-year shopping orgy.

So is my tree a "replica"...or a "kit" because I have to put it together? Since I've added custom trim, is it no longer "original"?
All I do know is that it's got a big block somewhere in there...
Seriously though, we kind of alternate between the hassles/nostalgia of a real tree and the ease/cop out of our fake. With the kids still little, the fake tree is a lot easier to deal with for sure.
Oh, and Merry Christmas to all! Hope your dreams are filled with happiness and cobras! (one and the same!)

Real or not, thats a good question
For as long as I have been married, not married, and married again, I have always had a "REAL 1". My parents have had the replica trees for as long as they have lived in Fla. (1964)
The way I see it, it is just as much work taking down the plastic fake, when you consider dis-assembly, boxing it up so it still fits in the original box, and putting the damn thing away so you can find it next year under all the crap that gets piled on top; as putting up the "Real 1".
If you go the replica route, you take away all the fun of arguing with the wife as to which one is better, fuller, fresher, taller, let alone which make to buy (Scotch, Douglas, Frasier. etc., etc.)When I'm done I just wrap it up and out to the road it goes, lights and all. Screw 'em, they're only good for one year, and it is our civic duty to help feed all those starving kids in China anyway. Really pi$$ed me off this year, trying to reuse those damn pieces of crap, for the outside decorations. It took me all of 5 minutes to toss those sum *****es out too.
No matter how you look at it, it's still a pain in the a$$ putting anything up, only to take it down a couple of weeks latter.

As a child we always had a real tree at home and I loved the pine smell although I couldnt understand why my dad used to get all riled up whem he had to put the tree into the bucket so us four kids could decorate it.
Then I left home and since have always insisted on a real tree, conditioning I suppose. She who must be obeyed, prior to taking pity and shacking up with me, always had a fake or replica tree but now she too is a real tree enthusiast.
Unfortunately I always leave it to the last minute which is why today, Xmas eve, I was out buying a tree.........the plus point is that the retailers are almost giving them away as its either sell or shred them.
As I was cursing and swearing, getting prickled to death, manhandling the tree into the bucket and thence into the living room for the daughter and Mrs to decorate I thought back to my dad and how he used to hate the tree erecting "ceremony" but loved the tree when dressed.
Our tree too looks lovely this evening.....
When I see my dad on Boxing Day I will bend his ear about why he didnt insist on artificial trees when we were small so I wouldnt have to go through the same ritual every Xmas.
You'd think giving me male pattern ba;ldness was enough, but no he has to sentence me to a life time of tree nightmares every Xmas........
