went back to the dmv at 12:45 the clerk that helped me this morning put me at the front of the line, the manager was on lunch break, finally left at 2:10 with # 108

I was there with Cobra Snake this a.m. in San Mateo. In general I thought the DMV clerks did a great job considering they have conflicting bulletins issued by the DMV on SPCNS.

I went to the DMV in Decemebr just to test the system and make sure that I had all of the forms. The clerk in Dec. was very unhelpful. The lady that helped me today was great.

I still have aheadache form the process though.

Made appointment a month ago-First time was taken so I had one for 8:10. My clerk had no problems and I had all neccessary paperwork- Out and back home by 8:35- my number is 0002.

SkipB 01-02-2004 07:32 PM

I'm glad some of you guys were successful. I was not. I hired a registration company to do my SB100 work. They carefully researched the process, had it all set up and mine (at least) was denied because of some DMV supervisor. She supposedly stopped ALL applications until I produced a letter from the Attorney General's office that OK'ed kit car registrations for 2004. She said there was a fraud case in process and that meant nothing could be issued. Apparently you all got in before this government hack decided to screw things up a bit. I just hope this is cleared up by Monday! Bye the way, the AG's office said it is not true and there should be no problem. However, as of 5:00PM Friday, mine was still being blocked. If I find out more numbers were issued while mine was on hold, someone may go postal! I won't tell you who it would be! I just hope it wasn't some other screw up with the company I hired! Just kidding about the going postal, but I am not happy.

Curious as to what the highest number issued was, before they stop issuing them.

295 @ 3PM

cobrap51d 01-02-2004 07:58 PM

Mr. Bruce,
did you get number 295. I called DMV near the end of the day and they said they assigned 125 for the day. I guess they may have continued after I talked to them.

SkipB 01-02-2004 08:20 PM

OH NO. Now I am really ticked off! #295 was issued by 3PM. I wonder if any will be available on Monday!!!??? My service had better come through! I wonder, did anyone else hear this DMV/AG story?

DaveR 01-02-2004 10:03 PM

Please clarify for me. Have all of you guys finished your build, and you've been waiting for January 1st before getting your number, or can you get a number without a finished car? I won't be finished until mid year, does that mean I will have to wait until the following January to get my number?

offroadr35 01-02-2004 10:13 PM

hopefully Sacremento will notice the numbers being snatched up so quickly and will ammend the law to allow for more cars. They definitely want our tax money.

trctrdrvr 01-02-2004 10:37 PM

Dave
I'm at least 30 days from finishing my car, the dmv gave me 90 days to complete the paper work but as I understand it I can go ask for an extension the only stipulation that I can see is you must complete the paper work in the year you started or you default on your money and start again the following year

DaveR 01-02-2004 10:50 PM

trctrdrvr
Approximately how much money, and what paper work is required at the DMV?

SkipB 01-02-2004 11:16 PM

I believe you will have to have your vehicle completed. This is because you have approximately 90 days (after you get your SB100 number and pink window sticker) to get your car to the CHP, smog referee, and brake and light people. They will only sign off if you car is complete. If I am wrong on this, I am sure someone will let us know!

JPConrad 01-02-2004 11:21 PM

Happiness is a sequence number!
Had appointment at the Lancaster branch DMV at 12:30. DMV clerks were great! It took them 10-15 minutes to get through to Sacramento, but finally got #107!

DaveR- paperwork required is:
1) Application for title or registration
2) Statement of Construction (form 5036)
3) Manufacturer's Statement of Origin
4) Receipts of sale for body/frame/engine/transmission

Cost for registration was 0.67% of cars value + $35.00. I did not have to pay a "use tax." My registration fees were $467.

Turk 01-02-2004 11:29 PM

DaveR,
That is exactly what it means. Unfortunately if they don't change the laws, next January 2nd. there will be lines in front of DMV offices at 5:00AM as if lined up to get tix for a Rock concert.
Imagine everyone who didn't get their numbers by Monday and the cars bought, sold, completed during the next 360 days.
It is an outrage.

You don't have to have your car finished. Actually you don't even need to have a car. All they want is your documentation, MSO and the sales taxes, registration fees. They could care less about the car. Within 60 or 90 days upon issuance of the SB-100 numbet, you need to go back for the balance of the documentation etc.

At the mean time some DMV offices have been known to give extensions in order for you to get it finished and taken to CHP and then to Smog Referee.

Offroad35,
The very reason why there are only 500 numbers is the reason I wouldn't hold my breath on them issuing more numbers unless, Governor does something different. Yes they want the taxes, but if the Autonazis were only after our money and didn't mind all these hotrods, they wouldn't have limited them to only 500 numbers to begin with in a state as populated as California. It is nuts!!

joea 01-02-2004 11:43 PM

Seems like the got the ball rolling after lunch.

Turk did you get your number?

Turk 01-02-2004 11:58 PM

Joe,
I did NOT. I didn't even bother going.

Dave
I stated the value of my car at 28,000, not complete at this time but would sale it for that price, paid 1663.00 to the dmv you need to have a MSO, application for title, statement of construction, all of your receipts for major componets, and they asked for a vin # gave them the # SV gave me seemed to work
good luck the # won't last long and next year will be a nitemare
