OK, now I am really upset. I hired a registration company to file my SB100 paperwork. They told me a DMV supervisor in Sacramento blocked ANY applications today (1/2/04) until they had the Attorney General's office issue a letter clearing "kit car" registrations. (referred to the fraud case from the Arkansas company) The Atty Gen office denies this is necessary. DMV still said no! The net result for me, no SB100 #, no pink sticker. How did you pull this off? Congratulations by the way!

cobrap51d 01-02-2004 06:24 PM

DMV issued 125 today. This is bad news. Tell all your cobra building friends to get this done quick. What's the supervisors name in Sacramento? Honestly get the name to me, I'll see what I can do.

pgermond 01-02-2004 06:28 PM

SkipB,

Don't take this the wrong way... but I think your mistake was leaving this to someone else to look after your interests. I was in and out in an hour, along with three guys in front of me and one behind me.

Get on-line, make an appointment, and get into the nearest DMV office ASAP!

By the way - the fraud case you refer to (I believe) was Titles Unlimited in Alabama.

SkipB 01-02-2004 07:41 PM

I agree with you! I should have done this myself. I just had other things I absolutely had to do today and was assured by the builder of my car and the registration company that they could handle it. I asked several times, believe me. I was going to wait until Monday to do it myself, but they told be about all the pent up demand for SB100 numbers, so I was there first thing this AM to get the ball rolling.

As for the DMV employee, I will attempt to find out. I don't think I can get this before Monday. I hope my several faxes, and phone messages to the registration service results in getting an SB100 number. I really don' t care if it is 499 or 500, I just want one in the worst way. I feel like a little kid who didn't get the toy he wanted for Christmas. The only difference is the price of the toy! In any case, thanks for the offer of help! You must have some inside contacts!?

Gotta go. I need to find my blood pressure medication!

CSX3014-4 01-03-2004 06:46 AM

I empathixe with the pain. On 1/2/04 I came back from the DMV with #2004-097. My appointment was at 10.10 AM and I did not get out of there till 11.45 and we are not talking about standing in line . This was a really dumb woman public servent that pretended to know what she was doing. (I paid my fees$2223 on 7/30/03 and so far have been run around 12 times) not taking no for an answer; a quick call to the referee and handing the cell phone over to the Jerk( OOPs I ment clerk) so she could be instructed on what she was doind wrong; and a good 10 minutes with the manager of the office and the wait while they called Sacremento and got my sequence #.
At any rate It looks like if you do not have a number yet you had better be in line Monday or today if they are open.
If you need help call me 760-248 2434 I have all the gory details for my files and if I can help, I will.

pgermond 01-03-2004 03:28 PM

That's too bad about your experience with the DMV employee. I can't say enough good things regarding my morning with them. Helpful, knowledgable, and wanting to please. Four other guys getting their SPCN had the same comments as mine.

SkipB 01-04-2004 04:38 PM

Just think positive thoughts for me tonight as we head into Monday. I can only hope that the registration service I hired can actually get a car registered! Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas. I just hope I can get back to all of you with an SB100 number tomorrow after workk. If not, anyone want a brand new Backdraft?

SkipB 01-06-2004 03:49 PM

pgermond,

Well, I finally got my SB100 number, 2004-207. It took until about 1 PM on Tuesday, but I finally got it. The service came through, and as you can tell by the number, there are plenty more available. As usual though, if something could go wrong, it will happen to me. The guy from the service forgot to get my temporary sticker! So, I will have to wait until tomorrow about noon for that to arrive. Oh well, delayed gratification I suppose!

Speaking about arriving, have you received your paperwork from the state yet? It seems some already have gotten theirs if they registered on Friday. I am curious to know how efficient they are in Sacramento!

pgermond 01-06-2004 05:01 PM

SkipB,

Yep, got in the mail today

CSX3014-4,

Most people are paying thier fees when they get an SPCN#, but you paid yours last July? How does that work and why did you pay them early? Was your car finished in July? Did you wait 6 months after your car was finished to get it registered? My sistuation may be similar, since I expect to complete my build by mid year.

DMV & Mrs LeMay

YAHHHHHHHOOOO!!!
They came through... Mrs Lemay sent me my SPCN # (2004408)
She promised me that they would block out 100 #'s for those of us who delt with Larry M.
I did not belive them but they came through. My next step is Jan 21st at the CHP office for the vin.

Turk 01-10-2004 09:48 AM

Mike so what you are saying, is a DMV clerk or whatever she is decides to take 100 of only 500 available numbers and use them to correct the mistakes of previous years by denying 100 people in 2004 the same numbers that created this mess to begin with.

What does Mrs. LeMay think is going to happen when people who need those numbers won't be able to get one? Why in the hell didn't the state that should have been more diligent with people like Marsh and TU issue some additional numbers to straighen out the mess. Why take the numbers we need.

I am telling you, one day someone will do something about these people. They are tyrants with some authority and don't hesitate to abuse their powers.

I am happy for you. I bet it would have been OK with you if they had issued you number 508 instead of 408.

TURK

cobrap51d 01-10-2004 10:03 AM

Turk,
That' the same complaint I have. It would have been just as easy for DMV to issue 100 more. Instead they have decided to punish everybody. This really needs to get organized if we want this issue to get fixed.

Randy Rosenberg 01-10-2004 10:29 AM

1. Congrats, Mike, I know you've been really worried about titiling your ERA. I think it's all down hill from here.

2. WRT 400 vs. 500 vs. 600 sequence numbers: I'm no politician or attorney, but it is my understanding that the 500 limit per year is California Law (Senate Bill 100) - IOW, the DMV has no power to increase this limit. Only the CA Gov can change the law. I think what we are seeing here with the 100 held in reserve (sequence numbers 400 to 500) is the DMV's decision on how to implement the distribution of these sequence numbers. Additionally I believe that those whose titles need correcting (ie: Marsh & TU, etc...) were blocked by the DMV from applying for/ receiving an SPCN sequence number on Jan 2nd, and are being handled by the DMV on an individual basis - I specualate that the DMV needs to be sure that SPCN numbers are available for these individual cases; hence the 100 reserved numbers.

I'm not condoning or condeming the DMV; just trying to make sense of the situation.

YMMV,
Randy R...

ERA 626 01-10-2004 06:42 PM

Turk,
I agree.... Im just happy to have a #.

Rick Rockey 01-10-2004 07:27 PM

I am one of the Cobra owners in this CA re-registration mess. I have had to pay dearly for this # so I don't feel like I took a # from anyone else. I would have needed a # no matter what. If you need the details just let me know. It’s been a long “ride” and it’s not over yet.
