So does any one recognize the mill.??

KK

427sharpe 01-04-2004 10:39 AM

THe mill sure looks like the GT's V10----sans supercharger.

BANDIT 1 01-04-2004 10:56 AM

If the car doesn't look like a Cobra, than it isn't a Cobra...

427sharpe 01-04-2004 11:21 AM

Annonced just in time to be overshadowed by the Chrysler ME412 concept.....850 hp quad turbo AWD supercar aimed at the Enzo. I don't see them have a Chrysler Ferrari killer, but I didn't see them having the stones to build the Viper back in the day either! :p
Welcome to the Golden Age of The Motorcar, volume 3.

Everyone talks as if it's a Cobra like the one we are associated with, when I think it's a Shelby Cobra ala the Mustang Shelby Cobra of '68 and later. Since they still own the Cobra name and use it already in association with Mustang a Shelby version is a logical move.

Gordon Claunch 01-04-2004 01:52 PM

Would this REALly be a REAL one???

Greg Kulp 01-04-2004 02:05 PM

The new GT has a V8, not a V10.

I'll be very interested to see the Cobra car. I don't think this is the upcoming possible Shelby Mustang, but a real two seat sports car. If what the articles say are true, then the target will be sports cars (Corvettes, 911's, etc.), not supercars. The GT is the supercar, with only the Enzo and the S7 running quicker/faster in recent tests.

Wish I had tuned in to TLC.

I believe everyone's lost their sense of what made the original Cobra such a legend. It had ability to pummel any and all other street/race marques hands down. Let's see if this new creation can win races, then we can go ahead & worship it.
No disrespect to Tommy Callahan but it seems ole C.S. could take a dump & sign Shelby on it and people would automatically consider it a masterpiece!

Excaliber 01-04-2004 04:11 PM

The new Pontiac GTO is shapeing up to be "worthy" of it's namesake. Doesn't have to "look" like the original, but I do consider that big plus!

But PLEASE don't use a great old car name (GTO, Cobra, etc.) on a total POS car like we HAVE seen Detroit do in the past!

I don't know much about Fords V-10. That would be an interesting application. The GT-40 is basically a whole new 5.4 V8. Shareing little more than "deminsions" with the existing 5.4. They are fundamentally two different engines.

This is too funny.

No solid info, no real pics, no idea of what the thing will look like or be powered by, or be priced at.

And yet - the speculation is rife. "the end of the replica market" etc. ( I do assume there was a tongue firmly in a cheek on that one?)

ROFLMAO

Let's just wait and see, eh?

Turk 01-04-2004 04:45 PM

So the name "COBRA" goes back to Detroit?

What do I call my car then? A NON-COBRA?

I am confused!!

bwana50 01-04-2004 04:56 PM

Pics on Ford's website. http://media.ford.com/newsroom/featu...?release=16649

I don't care for it - has the angular styling that's currently in vogue. Hmm, a V-10, weighs about 3000 lbs, "uses the same basic castings and assembly techniques" as an existing engine family.... I seem to recall that Dodge already did that about 12 years ago (Viper).

LURK 01-04-2004 05:14 PM

Also worth noting they call it a "production-feasible concept car," ie don't look for it your local Ford showroom quite yet.

Carcraft

That car is a go. Bodys/ chassis are being built as we speak. Target- Vette/Viper price range.

Excaliber 01-04-2004 05:31 PM

Interesting that the development time was so short. THAT has become a critical factor for all of the manufacturers. Since they borrowed heavily from the GT-40 it does make it more feasible to place into production at some point.

Cobra name from Detroit? Nope, but Ford DOES own the name after all, and in my opinion, they better use it only a car worthy of the name.

2005 FIA car

Notice that the car is based on the FIA. Look at the six spoke FIA wheels, the shape of the rear fenders, hood scoop, and small front oil cooler nacel. Welp MrMustang ,whatta ya waiting for?

KobraKarl 01-04-2004 06:00 PM

Bwana , thanks for the link.......

Id like to see them do something a little nicer with the dash and rear...

Rides- The new TLC Show

Here's info on the new TLC car show.

http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/rides/rides.html

The first episode is dedicated to the new Ford Daisy project.

Should be interesting.

Best Wishes!

LURK 01-04-2004 06:11 PM

That would be Tuesday at 9 PM, by the way.

Tongue Pirate 01-04-2004 06:14 PM

I'm glad they tried but as with most concept & "re-issue"cars, I'm not impressed. I looks like an Audi! Not that Audi's are bad or anything but that's not the look that gets my blood pumping when I see a Cobra.
