I can't make up my Mind as to what I should use.. Pic's welcome David:cool: |

Dave
I did mine in vinyl. Will post a couple pictures in my gallery. hog |
I have black vinyl, or maybe the hides of a few Naugas!
|
carbon fibre
I did mine in vinyl, but I am changing it to carbon cloth. My car was modeled after a street legal spec racer, so the interior looks more like a race car, ie none. All aluminum inside, the vinyl looks weird, so I am switching to carbon cloth.

Here's some pics of my recently finished dash, finished in grey leather, stainless steel gauge pod, and aluminum switch panel:

I upholstered mine using a 1/8" closed foam for padding and using dyed tanned Elk Hide.

Powdercoated matte black.

Dave:
I went with leather so I could match the seats and door pockets, which are also in leather. Pictures are in my gallery. I prefer a more traditional approach. It is all a matter of personal taste. Should you go with your third choice, it is very hard to tell the difference between the leather and a high quality vinyl now. So if you are on a tight budget, go with the vinyl. jim |
I built mine out of stainless and went with carbon fiber autometers.

Dash Covering
I first tried a new type of clear coat... http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...shout1-med.jpg
But that just didn't look good.. so went with some industrial grade nagga with 1/4 padding: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Final1-med.jpg Whew.... lots better. Zderf  |
1/8th inch foam and black naugahide.

Hi,
I went with the classic British wood dash, 3/4" solid oak stained light mahogany with Autometer phantom White gauges. Perry. |
|
Personally, I like the looks of the original: lightly padded black naugahide with Smiths gauges and Lucas (Prince of Darkness) switches. Now if I could only get my fuel level gauge to work properly! ; ) Rich
|
Originals cars used English "VyNide" vinyl covering, directly over the aluminum dash without padding.

Wow guys,
There is alot of options out there that Ihad not even thought about. From Powder Coating to Carbon Fabric. I think all of the pictures that were posted looked great. Thanks David |
badrich:
Thats the problem with Smith gauges, as long as you get something, be happy. My Smith fuel gauge never reads past 3/4 full. But thats good enough for me. jim |
