Carroll DeWeese's post reminded me of the "visibility" issue with these cars since they're so low to the ground. Drive them like you're riding a motorcycle, and don't trust anyone around you. Just expect them not to see you.
People tend to look over the top of them or they have their mirrors adjusted too high to see them. I was hit once in a parking lot (at very low speed, and with very minor damage) by a Ford Focus driver who couldn't see me over her rear deck. |
Rick - right behind you - been reading, studying, talking to local Cobra Club folks in Michigan, also getting ready to control the car, control the smile, etc .......... cant' wait ..........thanks for starting the thread - all good advice. I may go with the block of wood under the accelerator

Rick.......Carroll and Clay are right, visibility is a HUGE problem for OTHER drivers seeing YOU, and for YOU seeing other drivers. The mirrors on these cars are basically for cosmetic purposes only. Always look around, and be aware of everything going on at all angles. I purchased a "fish eye" type add on mirror from Cobra Valley. It fits right on the face of your side mirror and looks good. More importantly, it WORKS at making the mirror more useful.
Hey......you at LEAST have to go with the "medium" cam. This is not a grocery-getter! You've gotta have a little thumpty-thump in there and set off a few car alarms going through town!:D :D ;) |
As always, I am blown away with the quailty of advice. I will print this thread out, read it frequently and adhere to everyone's experience.

I agree with TerrysSPF: Get the lumpy cam, 'cos you dont wanna sound like a Viper or a new 'Vette! Also, I agree with Clayfoushee: drive it like you would a motorcycle, constantly checking your six, and all the other views as well! Just take it slow, and get used to the Cobra a little at a time. Smile a lot at the people as THEY smile at you; dont be known as "that jerk in the Cobra, always racin' around town and acting the fool!"

big cam it is..thanks!

Rick,
Ask Eric about the difference between Eric Brown's cam and ours. Remember, you want a user "friendly" engine for comfortable cruising. |
Dan, I'll see him ERIC tomorrow. THANKS
|
Make sure he gives you a Performance Engineering T-shirt. We stopped in yesterday and he mysteriously was "in Dayton". Talk about being tight with those shirts!;)

This is a great thread! I think all of us new to these type of cars need to approach them with as much caution & informed information as possible. I for one will only have about 300hp under the hood but also recongize that that will not be like having 300hp in a normal car. I expect it to be more like 300hp in a go-cart. I am trying to scare myself into being very cautious because I know I am male & we guys tend to like loud fast things a little too much for our own good:3DSMILE:

Hey Dan. Sorry I missed you and your brother. I was really in Dayton. Should have called first . Bobby could have given you a shirt. Man he is tough! Any former and future customers are always welcome to a shirt and even a hat if they are really nice! Yes Dan, Rick gave me a hard time today, about the shirt. Rick, next time we meet, ill be sure to give you and your wife official driving shirts. Thanks,Eric
|
Dan, I took your advice and selected Eric's mildest cam on his 418 stroker. Eric thought it was the right choice for my needs as well.
Can't wait to get my driving shirts! :smilie They're silk right? LOL! |
