Report from Barrett-Jackson Auction
I spent the day at the Barrett Jackson auction today down in Scottsdale. Some of you may be watching it on Speedvision. There were at least three nicely finished Shelby 4xxx cars getting ready for the block. It will be interesting to see what they bring.
I also saw Mr. Shelby there, with a bag of pens signing everything in sight. I asked him to sign my forehead, but he said I needed to let it rust a little in the rain first. :) Shelby had a number of cars there, and two nicely fitted aluminum blocks on display. Those Kirkham bodies sure are pretty. |
Have been watching, and it looks like "Bowtie" night. Couldn't believe that 67 427 Vette went for $135K.

Barrett's
You ain't kidding Clay!
My God, Chevy seems to own this thing tonight. I really do admire and love Corvettes (prior owner of a 69' BB), but 135K?!? An absolutely gorgeous machine but that's an awful lot! Steve Riley |
Agreed - but $135 is not too uncommon for a 67 '427/435 - HOWEVER, $100K for a 56 Chevy convertible is!

Wait till tomorrow. the fords will show up for big $$$$
|
I never understood why, but the collector Fords have never commanded the same bucks as similar Chevy's. For whatever reasons, there seem to be more quality restorations available among the various Chevys.
$113K for a 69 Camaro Z-28....OMG....I'm feeling very sick to my stomach about what I sold my perfectly restored 69 SS-350 convertible for. I went to see Barrett-Jackson when I was out there this past year, and they really wanted it in the auction this year. Damn......sold it locally, but should have shipped it to Scottsdale. |
I think the coverage has been great. The Shelby Series 1 did not appreciate any did it? Saturday's cars should be spectacular. Friday was a mix of Muscle Show and Ride. Thursdays cars were good... Fridays cars better... Saturday will be the day for the Best stuff.

Went to Barrett-Jackson this afternoon. Too many people. Some buying frienzys going on. 1962 Impala convertible set a record for that model -- $63,500. Somebody has WAY too much disposable income. :) Too many people. Lot's of Mustangs this year -- particularly Shelby models. Didn't see Carroll running around, although I understand he was there. Too bad it rained yesterday -- made the field too muddy. Funny how the exotics don't dominate anymore -- like in years' past. Too many people to take photos, enjoy the surroundings, etc. Bought a 1:18th scale 360 Spyder for a friend who cancelled his order for a 1:1 scale sized one (real) after getting tired of waiting months and months for it... Did I mention there were too many people? :)
Amyway, here are a couple of pictures -- and a bunch more HERE Enjoy. Ben Nice Contemporary -- note rear exhaust! http://a6.cpimg.com/image/B8/69/2896...-028001E0-.jpg Mmmmm... Slabside..... CSX 2104 http://a3.cpimg.com/image/23/6C/2896...-01E00280-.jpg |
The Contemporary only brought 24K. The owner is almost finished with CSX7030 that he is replacing it with.

Wayne Presley's GT 40 is lot no. 715 on Saturday. Riden in by Sheryl Crow, driven by Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and passed gas in by yours truly. :p
|
Jamo I'm surprised your gas fit in it.
|
I love watching the BJ auction.:D
Does anyone else here think that wearing a bright yellow sport coat must cloud one's judgement? I hope that bastid is in the crowd if I ever sell a car at auction. |
Jamo -- and you frowned when I question what Pat smelled in the Kirkham GT40?
:3DSMILE: Lets hope Wayne gets the money for that car now. :p |
'55 Nomad
Holy bat crap, Robin-- a modified, non-stock Nomad for $130k
Seems it's Chevies rule this auction |
...Sanderson "66" (ha) GT-350SR...new clone, bastard son of Eleanor...goes for $140K
 sheesh. ...was that the same guy, with the same girlfriend that bought the Eleanor last year? :JEKYLHYDE |
Zephyr hot rod (though assolutely amazing with a V12 Flathead) and 55 Chevies going for more than Gullwings.
One guy buys all 4 Calloways (the Sledgehammer would've been enough for me). We live in strange times. :JEKYLHYDE |
All 4 Calloways for only $740k! And he thinks he done good! That is freakin' crazy!
How about a Hemi Charger for more than $150k. Nice car, but for my money I'll take a 318 Charger and drop in a crate Hemi and buy a few Kirkhams with the change. |
Could be....Remember, they are "making a market" in a big public way on the Barrett Jackson auction. Let the true buyers beware.............Especially when an original (documented) "R" Model is sitting unsold for $250,000 on a showroom floor at this very moment...
