WOW! Did my garage change today!

It's amazing how one's life can change in an instant. After patiently waiting over 7 months for my FIA car to be built, I found myself last Saturday at exactly the right place at the right time.

Although not the car I was planning to build, a combination of a lucky Google search, a series of whirlwind events, some frantic phone calls and emails, and my garage today has undergone a sudden and unexpected transformation that I never could have thought I could afford....So, now I will cut my teeth on my first Cobra with a big block instead of a small block...Thanks to Bill S (Mr Mustang) for a great delivery job. Now, hurry up springtime!!

See the before and after pictures of my garage below....

Luke,
Congrats!!!! I'm sure you'll be peeking in that garage every 15 minutes or so. And to answer your question...yes, it's really there, yes, it's really yours. Bill S. is a great guy, so you can feel good about it.
First day over 40 degrees and you're taking it out, aren't you?

Well, I hope to see you at our meetings and events here in the area. We've got lots of great people here.

Luke,

Questions - you mention your car is an FIA (I assumed 289 FIA), but looks it has the rear braced roll bar, and gas filler in the 427 location, and the side pipes coming out thru the fender 427 style?
Was this your specification?

mrmustang 02-06-2004 06:35 AM

Mgreene,

His car is a 427 style as you can see by the rear quarters and the doors.... I can personally attest to the body being of the 427 lineage........

Bill S.

mgreene 02-06-2004 06:37 AM

Ah, Bill, thanks for the clarification.

Art Burtt 02-06-2004 06:38 AM

Wow I wish my garage looked that clean!!!

trularin 02-06-2004 07:58 AM

Is that a right-hand drive?

Picture almost makes it look RH.

Great looking car!

Bill - I know it ....Here I am in my early '50s'a and still a "Cobra Virgin" - never driven one, and actually never even ridden in one....closest I've ever been was my Tiger....talk about anticipating springtime...thanks again for the great delivery.

mgreene - you are probably being thrown off by my tag line...I still am "enjoying and anticipating" my 289FIA....it's just that this BB came into my life and I couldn't resist. Like Peter P of ERA says "once you get the FIA bug, it's impossible to get rid of it"...anyway, I think ERA601 will help pass the time while I'm waitin'...:D

Art - thanks for the comments - it is an ongoing battle to defend the "shop" from kids bikes, hockey stuff soccer balls, etc as well as wife's gardening tools and stuff....

Trularin - no..it's conventional LHD - must be the picture angle - look carefully at the roll bar brace position relative to the stripe

Welcome to the ERA family. Great cars, great bunch of people (well, except for Peter:LOL: ).

Ron61 02-06-2004 10:48 AM

Luke,

Great looking car. Now if I could just get my garage to improve like that. You will have more fun than you thought possible once you get started driving it.

Ron :)

RallySnake 02-06-2004 11:09 AM

Wow Luke,

That is a great garage improvement. It makes your refrigerator look so much better!

Seriously, it's beautiful. The BEST color, too. Inquiring minds want to know more about it though. Want to share the specifications?

Paul

Paul - here is the story...the car came into my possession through a DEA auction - I stumbled onto the auction with 3 hours left in the bidding - I was "high" bidder in the closed bid auction by $150.00, so I didn't leave much money on the table! (It was even "DEA guaranteed" to be drug free!).

The downside to this whole deal was I didn't get to enjoy the step-by-step build I had been planning on, so I can't speak for all the details such as motor innards, etc - the upside was I got it for what I think was a very good price. Upon closing the sale, I took the car straight to ERA. ERA of course knew the car - Doug and Richie checked it out, custom fitted the turkey pan and missing heat deflectors, and pronounced it A-1. Peter P's comment was all it needed was "someone to love it" - it was a bit grimy from sitting for a year, but will polish up just fine.

It is an '01 build with 2000 miles on the odometer, 428, toploader, and various nice-touch options such as leather seats, MSD, the chrome add-ons such as bumpers/overriders/rollbar, coated exhaust, car cover, etc. It also came with a killer sound system, which I will remove shortly...

So all in all, bring on the springtime!

Tongue Pirate 02-06-2004 08:08 PM

Awsome! Can't get a better car than that:cool:

luke-44 02-08-2004 09:25 PM

Sunday night about 10:30.

I finally had my very first moment alone with the car, since bringing it home........

you know, the first "really alone moment"......I pulled the car cover back ever so slowly, starting from the front....

gawd, these are beautiful cars..........:3DSMILE:
