Dave,
I am also getting ready to go through the NY DMV gauntlet... Everyone I know has registered their vehicle in another state, then transfered to NY. I am going to go through the DMV process with my Superformance, and document the steps to help anyone else following my steps.
The SPF is already in pretty good shape for passing NYS, and has a heater/defroster. You will probably have to add one to get your FFR to pass. I need to add a PCV system, which I was going to do anyways....
I will post updates as I go. Probably won't be for another 30-60 days, though. Let me know if I can be of any help to you...
Someone has to be first....

Dave,
You may want to drop a post over on www.ffcobra.com as there are many FFR New Yorker's who have gone through this process. Also, here's a link to current thread covering car registration that may be of interest.

Torre44,
Do you mind elaborating on the defroster set-up? Sounds just what I am looking for, I am in Upstate New York. who makes it, where did you get it?

Assuming you title the car this year, it will be titled as a "2004 Custom."

The last guy I talked to at the DMV says mine should come through as "1965". My Superformance came with a MSO "Manufacturer's State of Origin" stating the car is a "Superformace" make, "Cobra replica" type, and "1965" year. He said that the state will probably assign a new VIN - it dependes on who happens to process the initial application. My Superformance has a Vehicle ID number on the MSO, but it is only 7 digits long.
I am not sure how the FFR will come through, though. I will ask next time I get a chance. Does it have an MSO?
The sidepipes should be ok. The state equipment list says, the muffler "..... should be able to effectively reduce the noise." I guess that will depend upon who checks out my car! A crankcase ventilating system is required for all 1964 and newer vehicles. That should be all I need for emissions equipment. 1968 and newer vehicles require more and more equipment, depending upon the year.
I work at a new car dealership, and talk to DMV people in Albany on a regular basis. A lot of the rules can be interpreted differently by different people at the DMV, as I have gotten different answers from different people.
I will keep you posted. As I said, I probably won't run through the process for another 30-60 days.
Have fun!

Jim: I am very interested as to whether NYS will let you register as a 1965. Please keep us posted.
Thanks, Bruce

Call US title service in Rochester NY. 888-521-1891. From what I'm told you hand them a check for $299.00 and they will get your car registered. Someone I spoke to used them for his Superformance and he said it was a no brainer.
Hope this helps
