Superformance GT40

Anybody considering getting one? Should be a sure winner, at half the cost of the "real" thing.

stush 03-04-2004 02:50 PM

Is this a forthcoming product? I was just on their website and didn't see it.

Stu

427Aggie 03-04-2004 02:52 PM

Half? What are you figuring the price will be Mr. Burce. The information thats been posted is $50,000 less engine and tran so figure another 20 for a total of $70K +Taxes...The few 40's I see for sale are up in the $350,000 range.

I want one but I really want a MK I with the 1075 fenders like the gulf cars...(want the gulf colors too :) ) Word is that those will be a while away since they are doing the MKII big block car first.

Matt

snakeeyes 03-04-2004 03:03 PM

Hey Matt, post a picture of those "1706" fenders. Most of the Gulf cars I've seen have 1075 fenders and I'd like to see what the extra 631 does for the look of the car.

Bob

427Aggie 03-04-2004 03:06 PM

You must be seeing things bob...I see 1075 in my post :)

Hey I have been running numbers all afternoon give me a little leeway

Matt

mr bruce 03-04-2004 03:08 PM

When I say "real" ,I'm refering to the 2005 Ford GT. Based on the $139K pricetag, plus dealer markup, the SPF car will come in around half price, and you'll actually be able to buy one.

427Aggie 03-04-2004 03:10 PM

Ahh..there you are correct....figure 200 for the new GT...I don't know there is a certain advantage to the new one...warranty...I think I will still go with the SPF 40

Matt

snakeeyes 03-04-2004 03:12 PM

Matt, I forgot...

...that you were a bookie on the side. That explains how you can afford that drop-dead-gorgeous ERA with the Webers, and be contemplating a 1075 replica.

Just yerking your chain a bit, Matty.:3DSMILE: You deserve a GT and I can't wait to see it at a future Austin event. I just wonder how many orders SPF will have for Gulf replicas...I may just end up glad that my GTD is done in Essex Wire colors.

Not that that'll stop me from wishing for a 1075 replica for myself.:) Right after the SPF Daytona. And the black & silver GT40 MkII. And the...

427Aggie 03-04-2004 03:17 PM

I would imagine that the gulf color scheme would be few and far between...its really an acquired taste...I really love the essex color scheme on yours Bob and would consider that as a second option...the other would be black and silver.

Matt

snakeeyes 03-04-2004 03:21 PM

We'll see, mi amigo, we'll see. I suspect SPF is going to sell every one they can roll out at the price point they've announced. The Marriott Round Rock parking lot may be a sea of marigold and powder blue in a couple of years...:D

Such foofy names for such a cool color scheme!

392cobra 03-04-2004 03:27 PM

When are the SPF 40's due out ???

Would it be for a BBF or SBF ?

My son feels the same for the GT40 as I did and do for the Cobra
when I was 13.

It would be great to get one and break it in for him.Might take 15 - 20 yrs. to break it in for him though.

427Aggie 03-04-2004 03:44 PM

Rumor has it they are going to start shipping in September with the MKII first which is a BBF sytle...knowing SPF though they will be able to handle any engine you want.

Go to..

....www.gt40s.com and look under the Superformance threads. there are pictures of the chassis and lot of other info. The car has not been "announced" per se but it does exist. When it is ready to go I am sure the SPF dealers will shouting it out. I think they are a little gunshy due to the long gestation period of the Brock Coupe.

Mk II's to start, Mk I's after that. And they will have a transaxle avaialable that will handle serious power....

And that does not even consider the all steel 32 Ford roadster that is coming....

Rick:3DSMILE:

snakeeyes 03-04-2004 06:16 PM

The original MkII was a 427-powered car but as stated above I'm sure the SPF version will take any powerplant you'd care to install (watch for the first crate-hemi car...). SPF is apparently reproducing an improved version of the T44 transaxle, a four-speed with the strength to handle just about anything you care to throw at it. "Lesser" engines can get by with a ZF transaxle or, perhaps, a Porsche G50 (good up to about 500 hp) if the SPF will accomodate it. Should be interesting to see the first SPF MkII with an aluminum Genesis-based 427 making, oh, about 750 hp, 50% more hp than the Le Mans cars made on a good day...

Mark IV 03-05-2004 04:01 AM

My understanding is that rather than relpicate the T44 with only 4 speeds, they are building an all new 5 speed transaxle in conjunction with a former Ricardo designer....the guy who developed the transaxle for the new Ford GT!

I think the SPF GT will set the bar higher for ALL componet cars. And will anyone by an all steel 32 Ford roadster? There will be some buzz on Brent's ClubHotRod site....

Isn't the new Ford GT a "replica"?

decooney 03-05-2004 02:54 PM

Evan,
I would say no - Totally new and improved in many ways, and cetainly not a replica of a GT40. IMO.

mr bruce 03-05-2004 03:07 PM

The new Ford GT is NOT a replica. It differs from the 1960s era Ford GT-40 by more than 10% ,therefore, it is a new design. The SPF GT-40 is supposed to be a true replica, from the mono tub to the 44 transaxel. Expect FoMoCo to try to get the loophole closed on the importation of complete, finished vehicles(less motor/trans) once the SPF cars start selling in numbers
