Default Good mufflers....

I came here looking for information on good side exhaust mufflers for my <ahem, not a Ford > car and am suprised to see that spiral turbo baffles didn't show up in a search. ( or did I miss them )

See they make a really nice, if expensive sidemount header for plastic cars. People say they sound good an I was wondering what the opinion was on this forum.

Here; http://www.spiralturbobaffles.com/
a set of these would set you back $300 and thats just for the inserts.

Now before you start thinking I am hawking these things, I will post this link

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/xq/asp...qx/product.htm

The second link is a place that sells the inserts a LOT cheaper.
They are about $90 for the length equivialant of the prior ones.

Both of them would require some fabrication, especially the latter.

I don't personally know how either of them sound tho I have heard that the spiralturbobaffles sound 'great'

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these?

Thanks

Keith

Keith,

I had a set similar to these fabricated for my plastic car and were way too loud for the street. But that's my ratty little small block. I was told that auger style mufflers work well on a big block cobra, what ever that means, but you never know for sure till you give it a try.

Keith,

I've got a set of sidepipes that have a 24" spiral baffle in a 4" pipe. I also have a set of pipes with 3-1/2" x 12" perforated core mufflers and another set with 3" x 18" perforated core mufflers.

The spirals are much quieter than the straight thrus. They also make a lot less power.

Tom's Motorsports sells some at $300 a set that are quieter than straight throughs with very little HP loss. I had him build me a set of sidepipes using the spiral design. You can run these pipes in three different modes: cap on (inner spiral tube capped) which is most quiet, cap off, or, I can pull the entire spiral out and run open pipes for track events. The medium setting on my car is a good 10 - 12 decibels (measured on a db meter) less than running 3 ID straight through perforated glass packs. Oh, they are so much quieter. And.... I only lost about 10 HP 377 vs. 367. In fact, I am not sure I even lost that much because the dyno's were done 8 months apart. I have been meaning to post a writeup on these complete with dyno graphs, db levels and pics, but have just been busy.
