From a citizen

Gentlemen,

I thank you for your service both military and civlian. It is mostly a nasty thankless job that needs to be done. You make the rest of us look like sissys. God bless you guys.

I was a close neighbor with a retired cop from OR who after 20 years had to protect himself from people who wanted him dead. After a few years I thought I could understand the problem he had in retirement.

For those who might get a ticket? Smile and thank them.

My hat is off to all the officers of the law regardless of what capacity you serve in. When you have a chance to live and work outside the USofA and get to know officers or have contact with officers in other countries, you can really feel proud of how things are done at home in re. to law enforcement. We have one of the best systems in the world, there will always be small flaws or an odd ball, but you folks are the greatest world wide in all catagories.

RET_COP 01-18-2010 07:20 PM

25 years on the job and was forced to retire at the end of the 25 year contract. I started at 20 years old and really enjoyed the job.
Was involved in drag racing (67 z-28 RS/SS, run low 10s) in my early years which was tough because I worked many weekends and couldn't get to the track. I had a 72 street camaro with glass packs. Every time I passed the chief traveling in the opposite direction I threw the car in neutral and turned it off. I coached many of the hotrodders in my city on how to behave (react) to a police stop. I also tempered some of my fellow officers negative emotions toward street rodders and converted several to hot rodding and dragracing. Chief called me in the office one day and asked me if I had a "Modified Gasser". I almost started laughing. Hey, he was from the old days at that time, but he was trying to understand me and my hobby.
After a long layoff I'm finally back, I always wanted a cobra (replica) and now I have one.:)
