AC Mk V

The AC Mk V is now on sale in the UK at Clive Sutton in London.

See the attached link:

http://www.clivesutton.net/category.php?catid=596

The interior looks significantly different from the Mk Vs on sale in the US last year. Clive Sutton recently advertised a Mk V for £59,950 (expensive!) but hopefully AC have sorted out the quality issues prevalent in the first cars.

The US distributor in now Unique Performance I believe.

Yes in deed AC MKIV,

I do not think the cars are aluminum and they use a very odd dash and rear end layout. Really it would be an AC MKV with these changes. At the price they are asking I am sure they will not be in high demand. They have smoothed out some of the classic lines and have added a bit of techno......

I wish them luck!

It is a Mk V! Made in Malta out of carbon fibre.

Wow, the fit and finish on that thing is horrible. The color doesn't even match on the silver car.

I thought Malta didn't exist anymore? Last I saw, Luby was in CT and trying to get the state to let him build cars there. And the only two prototype cars he built kept showing up on ebay for sale with nobody buying.

Did I miss something?

BTW London, what's your affiliation with AC? Are you Lubinsky? Every single one of your posts is something promoting AC.

Excaliber 01-13-2007 08:57 AM

So how many cars are actually for sale? More than one?

No. I'm an AC enthusiast.

The car is now on sale at Clive Sutton. The silver car is the first production Mk V and Clive Sutton's demonstrator.

According to Clive Sutton, the car is now in production (see thread below from the AC Owners Club Forum):

I think I understand it now. This is the FIRST car, apparently from Malta, with two more cars scheduled for completition sometime this year (total 3). Clive Sutton is the only authorized sales outlet. It would be nice to see some under the hood pics. 5.0 is rated at 340 horse, how'd they get that?

OK, time will tell...

Clive Sutton's comments were posted in November 2006 so he was expecting two further cars by December 2006.

I haven't seen anything on Unique Performance's website about US sales apart from the initial press release from Spring last year.

Excaliber 01-13-2007 09:58 AM

Oh, by end of year LAST YEAR. Hmmmm, there may be a slight delay before we see car #2 (if ever), ya think? :D

Trevor Legate 01-13-2007 01:32 PM

If anyone cares, the first SVA-test car arrived in May and was then, I believe, purchased and went to France. This is possibly car no.2. A number of MkVs were shipped to the USA a while back and seem to be available through that shopping extravaganza, ebay (and those two examples went unsold I note)

London

Do I assume you work for Clive Sutton? Can you confirm the body is carbon-fibre? Just wondering.......I did see this car at the Earls Court show.

AK1234 01-13-2007 02:18 PM

MKV in the USA

I looked at both EBAY cars .. the myths are all myths. Both the Silver and Green car are both decent MKV's less the motors. They have flaws .. but nothing to compare to some of the kits and replica's I have seen. Theya re carbon fiber, interior I think matches the las MKIV CRS ... the only issue I see is registering them.

I own original cars ... so have no experience with registering them. My only reservations is because they have no MSO. I was thinking if it would be worth it to ship it to CLIVE ??? what ever his name and see if he would complete the car and issue the correct documnets ??

Trevor

Afraid I can't confirm this and I don't work for Clive Sutton. He signs on under his own name on the AC Owners Club website, so you may wish to post there.

Did you see the car at MPH06? What impression did you get of the car?

JBo 01-13-2007 04:08 PM

These are well sorted out cars. They are basically a Mark III/Mark IV frame, Frua rear uprights and wider track fronts, fiberglass fender wells and foot boxes as well as trunk floor. Superblower interiors MK IV plus center instrument pod, Mustang pedal assbly, willwoods, compomotive pin drives etc. definately well engineered.

Excaliber 01-13-2007 04:29 PM

They may be well sorted out, but use of the word 'cars', as in plural, is a bit of a stretch it would seem.

JBo 01-13-2007 04:49 PM

there were two of them, but if the plural is not the issue...two rollersor rollers to be precise

AK1234 01-13-2007 04:58 PM

I think so

They appear to be nice cars .. not perfect specimins .. but complete solid rollers. I like the style .. the body is close to the MKIV ... what stand out is the brakes are seriuos upgrade. It looks like the master cylinder was move out board maybe to fit a Ford 4.6 L cammer.

JBo 01-13-2007 06:02 PM

appears resivour was moved outboard..master appears to in MkIV location, cammer way to big.. ..the body is a MKIV clone in carbon. really very nice... was at birth of the genre. Designed for a '302 Gt 40 eqipped engthat can exceed XXX hp.

nikbj68 01-14-2007 03:08 AM

Considering that they have been around for a couple of years now, they should be 'well sorted'
Mr.1234, Did you actually visit the cars? Is there any link between that and why the auction ended early?
I would have thought that contacting John Owen of AC Cars Manufacturing(Malta) or whatever they are exactly called now should furnish the new owner with sufficient paperwork to register one or both of these prototypes.

I did visit the cars .. Nice cars ... Mr Owen ( AC CARS ) will not supply a MSO ... the cars need to be reg as a home built. No links .... have to do some homework the car can be registered when complete. The date of the motor governs the date of emission stds. Inclusive of pol pump, cats, etc. I dont think it would be worth reg a 2005 and a 66 cobra ..that would be silly.
