Sorry, Larry, but my opinion hasn't changed. But my opinion doesn't matter so if you like them then enjoy and more power to ya, brother!

They didn't have yellow tires in the era you are trying to re-create. Seems simple enough if it's important to you to buy a white tire letter pen at checker and do them in white. :)

John, as simple as that sounds, it typically ends up looking like shiat. Or if you really take your time, it looks good for a few hundred miles then starts to break down.

I found this source the other night from all places, a Schwinn bike forum!

http://www.rangerpaint.com/

There is also another source from some guy in Iceland that mixes up his own special batch. But I figured these young scientists are local and for $15 (with shipping) it was worth experimenting. This paint is truly designed to stick to rubber, so it should cover better than those paint pens and be more durable.

Even if the paint works, it still doesn't get me by the fact that the Goodyears are bias ply and non DOT. Their street manners won't mix well with my driving style and requirements. :(

I don't know about anybody else, but I just got 2 sets of Goodyear Sports Car Specials and they are for sure white lettered like always.

Eliems 04-05-2007 12:16 AM

If any of you get tired of those "ugly" yellow billboards, i think they would look pretty good on my car! :)

Larry N Johnson 04-05-2007 06:07 PM

well, for the track, maybe no one will criticize?

Goodyear tires

What tire pressures are you guys running on the Goodyear tires?

1985 CCX 04-05-2007 06:39 PM

I have yet to mount my Sport Specials and they too use the old school white lettering. I think the guy that painted them is in need of glasses. They has trouble staying between the lines. Still a great looking tire, mounting may happen Friday. I'll post pics in the gallery.....:D

Mounted and love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Larry N Johnson 04-06-2007 08:51 AM

Jeff,
That's the knock on the white letter tires. The piant is not done well and it turns brown after a while.

Whereas the yellow, it will stay that color...

We will get back to you on that; Chuck Robertson uses these on the track very successfully. He will know the pressures.

FWIW, I run 18lbs front and rear on these and they're great once warmed up. Skittery when cold. One of the last sets of white-letered handcut slicks from Roger. I had to hand-paint over the stock stencilled paint. They were terrible. I guess the same can be done for the yellow ones.

Chuck R 04-06-2007 11:09 AM

We usually will do first run at 24psi front and 25 in the rears, readjusting after the first run. When hot we may go up or down a pound or two depending on track condition or temperature, depends how th car feels.

Who me? Couldn't be (wrong Dean?). For one I'd be in FRONT of you.

Secondly, my car sports white stripes and only driver's rollbar. Looks like lots of fun! I'm sure your tires helped to make it a great day.

At first I was not sure about the yellow lettering but it has started to grow on me. I have had several comments about how good the yellow looks with the red car. I know that the Goodyears definitely hook up better that the BFG T/A's did on the track:D

These only come in slicks?

tbirdz12 07-06-2007 03:28 PM

This thread got me motivated to call roger and order my billboards (white letters) for the SPF. They really make a cobra look like a cobra in my opinion

Thanks guys. :)

Durt 07-06-2007 04:39 PM

I'm running Blue Streaks. The lettering is a bit smaller & the "tread" is non-existant, but me likey the look.
