On Sunday morning, we rounded up whatever original Cobra were there for a group photo

...and who comes strolling over while we were arranging the cars but Bob Bondurant.
We took a break and had Bob pose with some of the cars that he drove and won races with...what a moment.

I am going to follow this up with a portfolio of posts of the original Cobras in attendance, but I have to spotlight a gem or two right now.

CSX3011 was in attendance...this car has some powerful history.
If anyone wants to see what Rangoon Red should look like...keep this picture handy

As we were setting up for judging on Saturday, they told me one more car was coming....soon, the ground rattled...and what pulled up? A King Cobra under its own power playing some sweet music on those pipes...

It was a really fun weekend...if you have never been to a national meet, you really should try it at least once... it's 3 days of pure escapism.

Now...let's take a look at the Cobras....

CSX 2002, the first Cobra race car, made its debut at Riverside in October of 1962. This car is in the track's Museum.

It shows some great details that were only on the early cars

Note the license plate lamp that was used to illuminate the numbers..

They tried hood louvers to keep it cool. Note the early hood latch

This little gizmo was fail-safe to hold the hood down...

Dragonsnake CSX2019

CSX2036, dressed up like a Dragonsnake... sitting on an original trailer that was used by Shelby American

CSX2128, the "Hey, Little Cobra" car

When they were setting up early in the weekend, I pointed out that they had a $1.6 million tent peg there.

Rich Mason brought out the Flip Top, CSX2196.... that is always a rare treat.

The car is...well...magnificent.

Hey Ron,
Thanks for the great photo coverage of SAAC-32! I am really kicking myself for not being there. Unfortunately it coincided with my wife's 40th birthday. I almost had her convinced to spend it in Utah but then her family arranged a trip to Cabo instead. Bill's King Cobra is truly stunning and does sound great too, I've only heard it at idle, can't wait to hear it at speed. Did Bob Bondurant have a new biography book available? He thought it might be ready before the event.

Thanks again, so sorry I missed it.

Yes, with Phil Henne. They were there with the book...and did signing sessions.
