Shipping (large) parts...
Okay, I'm ready for another infusion of parts---and need to ship some BIG stuff acrosss country (rear IRS differential assembly, side pipes, et cetera).
What shipping company is the most reasonable in $$$?
I contacted Intercity Lines thinking my boxes could hitch a ride in one of their Westbound trucks, but no-go. Any suggestions?

There are several variables you have left out.
Are they all from one place?
Are they all in one shipment?
Are they boxed or open?
Have you shopped around?
Here is a suggestion, get the stuff in boxes and check shipping on each box if you are trying to save money.
Open items ( rear housings ) can be shipped in bubble wrap and cardboard to protect the finish and sent UPS. Have the Pig sent in another box.
Or, if you live close to a terminal, pallet the entire lot and ship on a truck.

I just shipped my headers and sidepipes to get coated from FLA to NY. headers in one box and sidepipes in a 2nd one. Shipped via UPS 3 day select service and it was $205.00 for everythign including, boxing/packaging them and $750.00 in extra insurance. (PS- They made it there overnight, woo-hoo)

Put the parts up on a pallet. Strap everything down. Shrink wrap it so the parts will not move around. My motor came that way from CRII in Minn. Was shipped FedEx Freight. Was $500.00 though.

Parts to be shipped are the ERA IRS unit, in pieces + rear sway + Ebrake cables + shift lever for TKO600 (not the TKO itself).
Should be in a crate, or on a pallet shrink-wrapped.
UPS est was $600. Didn't look at FedEx yet. Best quote I saw was on the above link for $300. Last one seemed reasonable to me.

We built a container to have parts shipped to us and to store in the trailer when we are traveling.......
The container was used to ship a Kirkham rear end ..... first we built the box and shipped it to Taylor Race Engineering for the Quaiffe and axles...... then they put the rear end in the container and shipped it back to me.....
The container weighed 75#lbs and the rear end weighed 75#lbs...... 150# shipped Fedex Ground IL to Tx..... $188.00 Mail boxes to go......
Be sure to bolt everything down so it will not move even is turned upside down.....

Shipping parts
We took a pallet and bolted a FE to it. Then we took a large cardboard box and put over the motor. Nailed the bottom of the box to the pallet. This way the motor was out of site. Shipped it from ALA to Texas. I don't remember what it cost. We did pick it up with an engine lift and set it, pallet and all into a pickup truck. Mike took it to the freight terminal and they unloaded it. It was cheaper to ship from the terminal. You need to know the weight of the crate and parts so they can give you a close est. on the shipping cost. Call all the freight companies near you because the price will vary a lot. If the trucking company has to use another company to get the freight to it destination, it will cost you more. If only one company handles your freight, it's cheaper.

I used Forward Air to ship wheels with mounted tires coast to coast a few years ago - just strapped them to a pallet and wrapped "saran wrap" around it all.
