385 in the R model GT350, more in the Cobra w/ Webers. Seem to recall one of the engine guys speaking at SAAC national saying they pulled UP TO 440 HP out of a 289 but had to detune it to live.

They really didn't pin down the HP ratings on the hi-end Comp Cars.

From the Shelby American Price sheets:

289 Comp Cars:
Stage I - 289/271 hp (standard engine)
Stage II - 289/271 hp (standard engine)
Stage III - engine options:
- standard engine with 2x4
- Full-race engine, 2x4
- Full-race engine, 4x2 Webers
...but no HP numbers to go with them.

The Dragonsnake packs look like they did spec HP

271, 300, 325 and 380hp for the different configs

AND, . . . . Those cars weighed about 1,800 lbs if I am correct. Thats about 500 - 600 lbs less than our replicas. Thats one bad ass car!

Very close...
...Comp 289, on the spec sheet, weighed 1912 lbs.

According to a spec sheet dated 01 Sept 1964 issue (in a Road&Track article) the 289 was available in four "acceleration" packages, Stage I-D thru IV-D, 271, 300, 325, and 380 HP respectively. Most of my references are presently packed for an upcoming move, however I remember reading somewhere that the typical race version of the 289 put out 385 HP.

That's it, Warren...those are the only published HP specs I could find.

Note that the "D" in those Stage kits stood for "Drag"... the Comp car Stage kits ended in "R" and were not HP-rated in the sales sheets.
