CSX4000 on SF Craigslist for $6,000
|
It sounds like he just has a frame and a few fiberglass body pieces.
From the way he wrote up the ad, it sounds like the car might be missing a few things like suspension, wheels, interior, motor, transmission, etc. |
Maybe someone should ask the guy if it is just a pile of replacement CSX4000 parts or if it has a CSX number.
|
I spoke with the seller and was told that the frame was purchased from shelby america for a race spec car. So it does not have a CSX # associated with it.
He says it is the same tubular frame that the 4000 series continuation cobras are built off of, but if you you wanted to have a CSX #, you'd have to pay Shelby $10,000.00....according to the seller.......Gosh, and here I thought $200 for his autograph was pricey:p |
You get nothing for nothing.
|
Who ever builds it, he won't be the first to buy 'component' parts, from various vendors, assemble himself and end up with a "Shelby". Only difference in this case is whether or not he'll kick in the 10K to make it "official".
Is it still a Shelby if you built it yourself? I wonder if you could do that with a Saleen Mustang, (Foose, any number of other names here _____ )? Buy the parts from various vendors, assemble yourself and then buy the 'name' to make it official? Clearly that works if your building a Shelby, and thats a fact. No ax to grind, just contemplating the logic of it all... |
I'm watching!
I'm watching this one, very closely!;)
jdog P.S. To bad it isn't an aluminum body! |
Just what you need Jerome........another shelby......:)
|

Could well be worth buying that 'dumb ol Shelby' number when the smoke has cleared. I'll bet it would increase the value beyond what the name costs!
|
Just another shelby bringing down the price of a original Shelby:LOL:
|

if built after 1967 it is a replica not an original body was not built by the original factory new engin did not come from ford and was not assembled at the original shelby plant in cal..
|
jdog, are you freakin' kidding. Boy, I have rotten timing. I would do that in a heartbeat. You're thinking of letting that beautiful black beauty (redundant) go? Hmmm, maybe I should trade my "NO SB100" KMP...
|
butch, FFR and Street Beasts are two examples of REPLICAS.
A Shelby product is still a Shelby product, so what are you saying, he can't use his name anymore? He should be forced to call them something else? He's not legally entitled to the CSX vin code numbers? He should be shut down and cease and desist making cars? Ford has no right to authorize Shelbys use of the name Cobra? Shelby licensing isn't a real company? Just what the hell IS your point referring to a continuation Shelby Cobra as a replica? ...every once in awhile this stupid 'replica' argument just really pisses me off. If you don't like the NAME or the CSX vin code buy a 'real' replica, like a Kirkham. THEY can't legally call their replica of a Shelby Cobra a 'Shelby' for ONE simple reason, they don't own the rights, period! |
