I currently have inline dual Holleys on a Dove Tunnelwedge intake. The car is an older EM replica. The S&H air cleaners are trimmed a little to fit up against the hood. I've thought about another hood scoop. A larger scoop to accomadate an oval aircleaner, problem the scoop would dump rain water directly onto the distributer. A cowl induction scoop would have to be large enough for that oval aircleaner but would need to look somewhat appropreiate. A system like this would solve a lot of my problems. A single hose and hat to each carb and somehow ducted so the filters were out in the cars nose in front of the radiater.

You are right about track time, what ever way I look at it especially with trying to obtain cold or ambient air, driving the car is the only way of experimenting! From a restriction point of view (stationary vehicle) the dyno may indicate general suction of a direct ducted tubular filter system, compared to the present 2 ply 14" X 3.5" K&N, incidently that air filter had "no power loss" on the dyno compared to no air filter at all. I was intending on having air filters in front of radiator, which isnt really a cold air system. If I could bring back the air filter/ducting to level with front of carb or back more, it would make a huge difference to the size of the front of the scoop, but would make no difference to driver visual height, due to the RamSC having a steeper bonnet angle. My issues are only aesthetic :eek::mad: |
I sent an inquiry to Spectre regarding performance improvements using the Muscle Car Cold Air Intake, reply below:
" Through our testing, we have found gains of 1.5 - 2.0% for every 10deg or so the intake temperature is reduced. The latest car that we have tested on the dyno with a Muscle Car Cold Air Intake was a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro with a 383CI. The kit gave us close to a 20HP difference, when compared to the stock setup sucking in hot under hood air. We do not have any published data to send you, as of yet. We are still going over all of our numbers and trying to get them in a readable format, which we can release to the public. I hope that this answers your questions. The guy I had spoke with gave me a lot of wrong information and measurements. It has a 12.5x 3" element, not a 13.5 as he had said, it also measure 22.5 overall width, not 24". The airbox is not sealed at the bottom, it has an 1/8 inch gap all the way around which is going to let some heat in, they could have definately done a better job here! Also, the element is a unique size that is only available thru them. I am still trying to figure out the drop down at the valve cover area. This would be a lot easier if I just ripped it apart, but I am not ready to rip the car apart yet, still some nice cruising weather. I did the math on the cfm on their filter and I am getting 706cfm, they are claiming 900+, I questioned his formula, turns out , their is no formula, their numbers are coming from a flow bench on the whole air box. Dave....thanks for the invitation, if I pursue I will be in contact. In my case, I had also been considering the installation for the AMX, which would have a great deal of space under the hood.
I have had some experience with Summit, their return policy, at least for me, was liberal. With the reply from Spectre, would appear the product announcement article in Kit Car Builder was lifted directly from the Spectre press release |

Well I finally got to taking off the turkey pan and carb.
This first fitting was rough, but I think it will work, will need some massaging for sure. I had to put it on diagonally, actually looks better IMO. I have a 1/2inch spacer/ heat shield underneath, this whole thing will need to come up another 1/2 inch. I will see if I can post a pic or two. Well I guess not, it says 39 kb is the max size, I cant get it that small, 75 kb was the smallest. If anybody would like pics, PM me your email and I will send them. Dave |
