Has anyone considered something like this for an air cleaner?
I was just flipping through my Jegs cataloge last night and came across this. Seems like it could be a good solution to not being able to run bigger filters due to clearance. I was even thinking you could run the piping down to the brake duct vents on the front and have a makeshift ram air! Definitely a cold air intake if nothing more.

i have seen that
in a magazine I think they would work well, esp if you ran the tubes down to some fresh air I like the looks ...WB3:cool:
|
ya, you can buy it as a kit or you can buy the pipes and fit it wherever you want. If I were doing it, I would probably just buy some mandrel bends and get it all fixed up, weld the pipes where they would separate in 2 or 3 pieces and run the filters right up front where the brake ducts are normally hooked up. Then you would have nice, cool fresh air for your intake.

depends on how tall it is. If it is taller than 3" It won't work on my car. I don't see any measurements.I would like to know though.

Will not fit on some cobras
fsstnotch First off, how are you doing?? Staying out of harms way. There is not alot of room under the hood for air filters, some have only 3" till they hit the hood, other have alot more room due to how low the motor seats between the frame rails. Has far as look, it's cool. Has far as power added to motor, NOT. You don't want hot air being sucked into the motor,it had enought heat. I want out side air, either from the hood scoop or the base of the windshield. bottom scoops in the front of the car also add heat to the motor if it's a hot day and the air is heated from the tar and sucked into the intake no winner here. That piping will also heatup from being under the hood and cause the same problem of a hot inlet charge of air. I was putting F1 packages on F-body cars in mid 90's and the cars went .2 slower than if the stock stuff was left on. The computors needed to be customized for the package but where none. The car where running way too lean. :o Stay well and watch your butt, see you soon. Rick L.

Thanks Rick! Just 3 days till I get to come home for about 3 weeks of vacation! I can't wait! |
gald you are coming home
fsstnotch Gald you are coming home:D Go easy on the wife, it's been a while.%/  ;)  Is not how you got your first child? Any way plastic or kevlar would be a better choise for the tubing. The turkey pan around the carb helps and it you seal it to the hood would help more. Rick L.

Your my HERO, no bull
fsstnotch Just a good guess.:) Either way you are still my hero, your company too. When you get home, the other half will reward you for above and beyond the call to duty. Have a safe trip home. Do you have enough bedrooms for more? Something to think about.%/   Rick

Actually we're about to put a bid in on a new house. 5 bed, 2 bath, 3 acres. We should have enough room! haha I'm excited! i get a room dedicated to my car stuff! Well.. that's until it's taken over by the wife. For some reason I end up having the storage room! haha

I read somewhere that a guy had his air scoops hooked up to the drake duct and "scooped" water into the motor during a rain storm. Bend valves? motor damage, he said the brake scoop thing was a bad idea.

I figure this is a good enough cold air source for my car... :3DSMILE:

Shouldn't you be Packing
I would be packing twice or three times just to make sure I am ready to go.

As far as I know, the air intake through the hood scoop only works when you have a turkey pan installed. Otherwise, if you pick up speed (>30 mi or so), the intake through the cooler and the bottom are much stronger and the air is pressed out of the scoop, instead of going in.
|
The air from the front of the car is always going to be cooler also.
Gregg... I've been packed for a week! haha |
She gets the house but the garage is yours.
fsstnotch You are going to need a contract about the house is hers but the garage is yours. There is a couple things you will need for your new dog house, frig with stock inside, padlock for door, good lights to see, cable TV, Stereo, and couch for sleeping in peace. Double lock on the garage door is an option. The new place sounds great, 5 bedrooms???  I hope there is a den with a fireplace. Like I said, be careful with that BIG GUN when it goes off;)   How many rounds does it have:rolleyes: and what is the reload or cycling time???%/ ;) :)   Try and not wake the baby:) Safe trip home. Rick P.s put the don't disturb sign on the doors. :MECOOL:

Only a week
Josh,
When I get a month out from going home on my break I will be packed. I need to haul some of the extra crap I brought back home. I will pack a duffle and my back pack for the computer. More crap for the garage. Gregg H OIF Baghdad, Iraq |
At SAAC31 there was a CSX7XXX car which used something similar. The car used the headlights as a point fior air intake. There was a screen used in place of headlights. I think the car was charged via turbo or supercharger and not street legal.

Rick, being that both of my dogs will eventually weigh 145-175lbs.. my dog houses are alwasy big enough for me to sleep in! hah And the dogs are warm and cuddly too! The downside to the house we're gettign is that it only has a 1 car garage... but not to worry. I've already been given the nod from the wife to build a new garage or ad to the existing. Due to the angle of the existing in the driveway, it kinda limits addition so i'm thinking about knocking the old down all together and building a 30x40 shop. i don't think the wife cares about a den or fireplace... she's diggin this:
http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...361_201_22.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...361_301_22.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...361_401_22.jpg We had talked about what we wanted in a house when we were looking... of course, she said the typical girly things (kitchen, laundry, bedroom) and I said the guy things (Garage, full basement, shop, garage). We agreed that if we found the right house with no garage that I could build one. gives me more reason to buy more tools! :P See, I believe the garage should eqaul at least 2/3 the sq/ft of the house so a 30x40 is actually a little small! haha she gets what she wants, I get what I want.. everyone is happy! My dad lives right next door to the apartment my wife has been renting till we found THE house. So him and his wife have already agreed to take my daughter the night I get home, the night of the baltimore/Pittsburgh game, and the 2 nights I have booked at a cabin for my wifes b-day. All within a weeks time. I'm going to propose to my wife in her b-day! We never go to do that with me in the military and I never had the cash to buy her a nice ring so I've got it all planned out! The cabin we're staying in is right on a pond, we used to go there when we were kids with our parents, when we were in High school and dating! I'm going to do it right next to teh swings I once sang a song to her while I pushed her on the swing! I am gonna pick up a couple bottles of wine, ordered some personally engraved flutes, a 2 tier wedding cake... it's gonna be perfect! It's gonna be perfect.. unless it rains! See, our parents, which were once friends, absolutely hate each other. My dad and my mom do not get along at all around each other. her mom and dad would not even be seen in the same building as one another... so it was hopeless for us to ever have a real wedding. I'm trying to get some of those memories we should have had.. back! Well... enough rambling!!! I'm excited if you can't tell! haha |
