Amy, maybe you thought I was being sarcastic, but my questions are sincere. Let me restate them, removing all non-relevant comments:

What will your stance be with respect to replica owners and the new site, registry, and events?

I belong to a club that is very encouraging and inviting to me and my replica. We held an event recently that had the track absolutely FILLED with originals and replicas and everyone got along famously.

Seems to me that if you really want to be inclusive you (SAI) would finally bury the hatchet and welcome the replicas, be they Kirkham, SuperFormance and even FFR owners.

Or is this all about more exclusive SHELBY branding?

Hopefully,
A replica owner

Wow, what a thread....Not getting any work done today!!
SAAC member and Shelby owner since 1992. Hey, for you old guys, I was only 22 when I bought my first Shelby, I could not start much sooner!

I'm just crazy about the original Shelby cars of the '60's; pure and simple.
So far, SAAC has been the best fit for me as far as clubs go. Maybe a little elitist, but I guess once you are in the "circle of trust", you kind of like it.
SAAC preserved the Shelby marque and made a few bucks on the way. So what?

I am very skeptical of a club started by a corporation where the primary purpose is not the operation of the club. We'll see how that works. For now, SAAC is where I'll be. I already registered for the 2008 convention and will participate in the vintage race with my '65 GT350.

Maybe a little competition is what they needed after 30 years. Things may have gotten a little stale and maybe the guys got a little lazy.

So far I am not impressed by the method and form of the communication from SAI. Can you say "spelling and grammar check?"...

By the nature of who we are, We don't support the companies that are in litigation with Shelby over trade dress, that said I would not turn away a clone owner or kit owner from our events. now there might be events celebrating a certain car, like the 68 gt500KR and maybe this wouldn't be appropriate. We are working thru it all right now. We are intereting in supporting the people first.

I don't have the answer to that. I believe they own "SAAC" regardless of it's meaning. I will check with Shelby Licensing

Spelling and grammer check, whatever, lets not loose sight of the message.

I'm pretty sure, just a gut feeling ( ) that Amy B. is more than well qualifed to make the BUSINESS decisions as to profitability, long term goals and has wieghed (weighing) the risk or pissing people off vs moving forward.

Not checked for spelling errors, and don't care either! :D

CNGreen 11-02-2007 02:52 PM

Amy, thanks for the response.

I thought all of the litigation was done with? Isn't that a bit of a dated response?

Again, not being antagonistic, but I thought all of the issues related to the Shelby trade dress litigation had been finalized.

My apologies for not spell checking , my priority was to get the response in.
But for the record, I would take my short comings over your lack of basic respect for someone else.

I don't believe so, I can not say anything more on that topic, except that my understanding is, it is ongoing

...and I would think CONTINUE to be on going for years to come. You think ANY corporation is going to sit back and NOT seek to protect their trade dress, trade marks, etc.? Not just today, but it will forever be an issue to be dealt with.

Tout 11-02-2007 03:03 PM

Amy,
Did shelby American ever make an offer to purchase SAAC ,it seems that would have been the best move ?

Amy, you should know by now, that this site is full of all kinds of people, with all kinds of different agendas.

Most of the people who respond to these types of threads, don't even care, or have a stake in the outcome, they just like to argue.

I myself, could post what I think of the situation, but I won't. I don't see the point right now, because nothing I say here will have an affect on what's going on. I'll just sit back and see how it unfolds, and then deal with the results at that time.

Continue doing the job you are doing; it's much more productive and impressive than anyone before you.

Just as an FYI;

Road & Track cover and feature article for the December edition:

Picture w/ wording:

" Shelby Super Snake Better than a Viper or Vette ? 605HP 0-60 in 4.4 sec "

Inside on the Contents page:

" Snakes Alive ! More powerful than even the GT500KR, this supercharged, Shelby built GT500 Super Snake looks ready to rumble with the new Viper SRT10. Plus, a look ar Caroll Shelby, the man, and the future of Shelby Automobiles " , an eight ( 8 ) page article.

Caption in the article:

" It is an understatement to say that the Super Snake is a beast. The engine not only makes 605HP, but also 590lb-ft of torque....that surfeit of motive force easily overwhelms the rear tires " "

Well you know, this reminds me of a couple that for the sake of appearances seems to be happily married. But you don't know what's going on behind closed doors and the next thing you know SAI and SAAC are getting divorced and SAI is engaged to the future young trophy bride TeamShelby...

And not only that, but it's probably going to be a messy divorce. I think Amy can confirm that SAI and SAAC are in litigation right now. :(

Nedsel 11-02-2007 03:33 PM

I share Power Surge's reluctance to comment here, beyond wanting to reassure anyone who has ordered a new registry through SAAC that it is on target. The GT40 and Cobra footnotes are at HQ being set, and the various chapters are already in place. Photos of every available car remain to be inserted (a note to anyone who has yet to forward one to : saac@saac.com) You can expect delivery sometime in the next 3-4 months.

SFM5S159 11-02-2007 03:44 PM

Gee, sorry!!!

Didn't you guys see the  ???

Don't take things so seriously**)

rms427 11-02-2007 04:12 PM

Is Team Shelby going to have local chapters like SAAC does? What about the Cobra Owners Club of America?

There is no litigation that I am aware of. This is a licensing deal.
