Default Expansion tank

Installed FE expansion tank on car. On this particular tank, I have 2 fittings or nipples. One is on the corner of the expansion tank and I have installed a hose that is attached to the radiator. The other is just under the radiator cap. Can this fitting be capped off or should it be attached to a tank? Thanks

That is the overflow and should not be plugged. I ran mine to a canton tank for overflow purposes. If you look on the passenger side near the side vent you can get a glimpse of it.

Unless you track the car you can run a hose straight down to empty on the street.

Like John said. Mine just goes straight down and empties on the street. It's only happend once!

Most modern day radiator caps are made for a "closed" system, one that allows the cooling system to suck coolant back into the system when the engine is cold. For example, a 16 lb. cap will seep coolant past the seal if the pressure exceeds 16 lb. When the system cools down and creates a negative pressure, the cap will allow coolant to be sucked back into the system. Confirm this by looking at the small metal disk underneath the rubber seal. If you can pull the disk downward with your fingernail, the cap allows the return of coolant. Therefore, most modern systems have a coolant overflow cannister. I would definitely recommend that you plumb such an overflow cannister into your system. If nothing else, it will help to keep air from being sucked into the system
