Mark IV lesson from Bill Shepherd
I met Brit Bill Shepherd at SEMA this year. He has raced an original Cobra in the UK championship and has spent lots of time helping Mark IV owners improve their cars.
One bit of info that I wanted to pass along was what he called their best fix. It seems that under Angliss, he said, AC built the Mark IV from the wheels up. They would build the chassis, drop in the motor and then build the car around it, body and all. However, AC never looked at how this affected the way the wheels were aligned.
The first thing Shepherd's shop does is correct the tow in and out of the wheels. It appears that in most cases, all four wheels came out of the factory at different angles. He claimed that no one looked at this before the cars were shipped out. Once that is done, Bill claimed the car handled much better.
