Club Cobra - Would like to switch to FORD power

I love the shape of Cobras, that's the primary attraction for me. I also pay a penalty for my attitude that it has to be street legal to count. I know I should buy a dragster or maybe the Opel shown below to go faster. It makes that slippery vette look huge doesn't it?

To break 7.50 in my Cobra I think I need about 200 more horsepower than before. I've got that much more nitrous. Once I reach the end of the Mild Steel chassis's certification I'll really have to decide what to do next. Wouldn't it be nice to have a Ford in my "phony" Ford though?

Well I am a Chebbie fan and without a doubt it would be less expensive to repair and update than start fresh with a Ford block. Sure it can be done but at what expense. Your 20 K cap will deplete quick enough. I ran hemi's in all the serious rides as the reliability and HP was a proven. The name on the valve covers mean little in any of the engines if ringing out 1500 to 2000 horsepower cause the only Chebby or Ford parts left are valve covers anyway !!

I have owned and driven many Advanced ET class cars but to run Street tires and keep all the Street dress makes it even tougher (a quote from your earlier post on this thread) and too a point far less safe. Running low 7's in any body design shaped like the brick (Cobra) and no wings, spoilers or attention to down-force just adds to the difficulty. With a short wheel base of the Cobra and Street tires and full street dress ????

Can you do it ... YES but how many times and at what budget??? more power to ya in many ways! enjoy the pursuit but be safe

I agree all around. I've always told myself this car is a little more stable than the average Cobra since the wheelbase is 102" and I have an Ed Quay spoiler on it. The spoiler did settle it down some, but I often wonder just how much danger I am in as I go down the track.

I know I want to reach 7.49. Then I will slow down a little with this car or go much faster with a better car.

You might also try the FE Forum; lots of big horsepower engines, and some very serious drag racers.

20K might be a little tight though.

A 511 inch FE engine can weigh under 500Lbs with a bottom end that can take up to 1500 HP
