I've used Rich twice now. Once to ship my ERA FIA from MD to CA and the second time to get it and my wife's Camry back to MD. His brother Doug drove both trips. The truck the cars were loaded on was the one that they arrived in. No terminal transfers. On the trip to CA I requested that the car not arrive until after I had returned to CA. Doug showed up at the house approx 20 minutes after I got home from the airport! As mentioned before they treat the cars as if they were their own.

My neighbors came over while Doug was loading the cars and he took the time to answer questions about his operation and regale them with stories of where he has been. Very personable. He even let my neighbor's sons (5 and 2 years old) sit up in the cab before he left. Jackson, the 5 year old, even got to sound the horn and start up the engine when Doug got ready to leave.

If you think the price is high, contact Rich. He will negotiate on price some.

I've used a outfit that was highly recommended by a friend that finds/sells high end sports cars. I used Bob Beverly, Inc. once, and would use him again. (he's the only one I've used, I usually move cars myself)

Very professional, has hauled a lot of Cobras, etc. Just my .02

Good luck

Don't use Passport. They were expensive and 5 days late.

I used Intercity when I had mine shipped from CT to Central Texas last summer. Cost was just over $1200.00. They did a great job and had my car to me in about two and a half weeks after scheduling (time included the 4th of July Holiday). Actual transit time was about five days.

Here's another vote for Rich & Doug Lacey. It's nice to deal directly with the owner/driver. The majority of other shippers are only brokers and they broker your shipment out to whoever has a truck in that area.

I have used TFX in the past. Very professional and very careful with the cars. I have also heard good things about Kintetsu World Express.

Don't forget when comparing what you paid "in 2004" the fuel surcharges that have been tacked on recently. I just received (or rather my wife did since I'm in South America right now) my brand new ERA FIA Wednesday the 16th. Intercity was busy and I got the name of Springle Transport, Billy Springle, he runs 10 rigs (enclosed) and from Ct. to Miami it was $1400.00 He hauls a lot of Backdrafts and after dropping my car off he picked up "a load of Ferrari's" at the Collection in Miami. Very nice guy, and that's all he does. He drove the truck that delivered my car. Peter had a good chat with him at ERA and gave him the tour. I'd use him again in a heartbeat. Rickd

No problem. Your comment just struck a sore spot. When I was deciding what options to buy a few guys on the kirkham board said I should buy a less expensive kit. I asked what were really necessary. Apparently, when you spend $58,000 on a kit a think twice before buying a $500 option you being too frugal. like others i work hard for my money and want to ask around and make sure that i'm getting what I'm paying for and not wasting money. I like to compare a litlle and make sure the price equates with the service. It sounds like it does with Rich. I'm still going to contact the transport services others have recomended for quotes.
Thanks everyone
chris

Chris, I agree with you. There are some people who think buying a Kirkham and being intelligent with your option choices are mutually exclusive. Not everyone has a money tree in the backyard like that former ClubCobra member who signed off after spending $125,000 on his Kirkham and then turned around and sold it a month or two later for $88,000 or $90,000. Now what was his name? Hmmmm.

RodKnock 01-17-2008 03:34 PM

Oh yeah, it was "rsimoes".

ng8264723 01-17-2008 06:33 PM

Thanks Rodknock. I just like to feel around and get others opinions. I figure there had to be a ton of guys that used different shipping companies for thier kits here so why not ask?

I used Hog Haulers. They have beautiful trucks, take really good care of your car, and deliver on time.

Chris......good Thread, there are a number of Transport companies mentioned that I was not aware of.

WarrenG 01-17-2008 10:18 PM

Chris,
When you finally decide. Let us know who you chose and how it turned out. Some of us will undoubtably be looking for transport services in the future and you can never have too many "data points" when you need to make a decision.

wetdog 01-18-2008 01:07 AM

Warren G,
I will definately post my results. Unfortunately, it will be some time before this happens. The car is getting shipped for my 40th at the end of Sept !! I just wanted to start the planning for the extra expense early.
