Car transport. Who to use any recomendations?
Here is the quote I got from Rick's classic transport. He comes highly recomended. My car will be in pieces so I know that's a pain and the extra charge for the boxes is included. Does the price seem fair. It's obviously an enclosed trailor. When I had my 2003 Cobra SVT shipped from Texas to Ma it was only $800 but that was in 04 and on an open trailor. Anyway here is the qote
thanks chris Chris, Thanks for the info and quote request. Kirkhams build the finest car on the market! Will be a honor to bring yours to you. Our current rate based on current fuel prices is $1,20 per mi. I checked Map Quest and it is approx. 2350 miles one way for your delivery. Will round down to $2800.00 and cover all tolls. If fuel prices change may have to adjust accordingly. Any extra parts come along also. If we proceed will coordinate with Kirkhams and bring your new baby to you. Thanks again, Richard and Douglas Lacy |
horseless carraige wanted 1200$ from North Jersey to Norfolk VA (one way) a year ago. I drove it rather than pay that.

When I got quotes for my ERA, Rich seemed high to me, too. I don't recall the actual quote, but I do remember thinking it was high.
The best quote I got was from Intercity. They delivered my 289 FIA along with a collection of boxes (probably about five boxes total). CT to CA, door to door was something like $2300. They even helped me push it up my rather long driveway (long and, ahem, UPhill...). They told me they'd be at my house at 7:00 am on a particular day, and bada-boom, bada-bing, they were right there at 6:55 am, ready to unload. Have fun with your Kirkham. You polishing it, or painting it? Love that polished Polish (sorry, couldn't help myself...). DD |
My car will be brushed with polished stripes. I can't wait. Unfortunately, I have to many projects right now. So it will probably sit for a while.

Stewarts transport did our FFR in 05 for 1100$ from MA. to To K.C.but that was before fuel cost went to 3$plus a gallon

I have used InterCity Lines on 3 occasions, completely satisfied
http://www.intercitylines.com/ Their on-line/real time Quote Request http://www.intercitylines.com/QuoteRequest.cfm |
Lets see, Buy one of the most expensive Cobra kits then look for the cheapest way to ship it.
Ya I get it.:D |
I have used both Intercity Lines and Rich Lacy. Both were great and I highly recommend both. You will get better personalized service with Rich (always good to deal with the owner of the company), but Intercity is top notch as well.
I would use which ever one can give you the best price and meet your delivery time frame. |
My backdraft is coming in from reliable transport this morning. Its kind of like it was when my first daughter was born. The cost was $1350 from Florida to Scottsdale,Az. **) :D :3DSMILE:

Rich Lacey delivered mine, very proffessional and quick. My quote in August was between $1.10 and $1.20 per mile depending on how many cars he was transporting.
It ended up being $1.10 per mile and they delivered it on a Sunday afternoon. I will be using them again in the future. |
I used Rich Lacy to transport my Kirkham. He was just a little higher than
Intercity. i was really happy with the way he handled everything. |
Lamaluv,
Thanks for the smartest comment. It's guys like you that make not want to ask questions here. To everyone else a sincere thanks chris |
I checked with Intercity and Rich Lacy prior to shipping my Kirkham from UT to CA. The cost estimates were very close. I think Rich was slighter cheaper, and the Kirkhams gave him a big endorsement. While there were delays in the mountains, Doug's truck broke down near Reno, and navigating the streets of San Francisco proved difficult, my Kirkham did finally make it.
Either company will be fine. Unfortunately with gas being so expensive, you really can't compare today's transport costs to costs from a couple years ago. |
Chris I'm sorry that I offended you that was not my intent.:o Whoever transports your car you will love it when your Kirkham arrives.
Dick |
chris, I have used Rich 3 times ,and he always did a good job. The last time I transported a car I used a local couple that drove to detroit from here and brought it back for slightly less that Rich and they did fine also, Rich was unavailable for my time frame on that occasion. chuck

I have used Gary Almond of http://almondexotictransports.com/
on 3 occasions.......1st class operation and all around nice guy. |
I've used Rich Lacy twice now and I highly recommend him. Treated the car as if it was his own. And I'll be using him again to bring a car from the East Coast to Colorado soon. Better price than Intercity or DAS Auto shippers.

Chris;
Might want to use InterCity Lines real time quote system to establish a base for cost comparisons http://www.intercitylines.com/QuoteRequest.cfm ICL, as does most other professional car transport companies has GPS tracking for the truck. Also, they called me a number of times during their trip to let me know their estimated time of arrival at my driveway. Not implying that ICL is any better than other companies, just happens to be the only company I had experience with. |
I have used Thomas Sunday,Inc. twice. They had the lowest price, top quality equipment, and were extremely careful with the cars.

Here's a tip.
Gas stations usually discount the cost per gallon when a commercial operator pays cash for a couple hundred gallons. The station owner avoids the cost of processing a credit card and he passes the savings on to the operator. Tell Rich you will pay the entire fee in cash at the time of delivery. He'll take advantage of the savings en route to his next delivery and I'm betting he'll agree to take a few percent off his quote. I've used Rich's service four or five times. Excellent business practices and Rich is good for a fine visit. Somehow he does this for his customers without being late. If something should come up, he'll phone to let you know where he is, what's happened and when you should expect him. |
