How many "street" cars out there?

I am becoming increasingly intrigued about going for a street version when I build my car. No hood scoop, under-car exhaust, chrome bumper treatments (no hoop, though, on the front). Probably add driver's side roll-bar, which I assume was an original option.

Most cars I see are the S/C version or are modeled after the racing cars themselves, so the Street versions are somewhat of a rarity. So, wondering how many of you out there have a street version. Also, not having attended very many Cobra events (and those have been small local gatherings), I don't have a feel for how many are seen at events. If you have a guesstimate on how many are the street version, I'd like to know (I'm thinking < 10%?).

Pictures are always welcome.

Alan,

Check out my "picture gallery" for a few shots of my "street" Superformance. Undercar exhaust. I do have a hood scoop and the full chrome bumpers. Olthoff roll bar.

Not too many set up like this, but it is what I want. The side pipes would be cool every once in a while, but this is what I want.

I guess mine's a hybrid street version.

I have an under car exhaust but have a hood scoop, solid color/no stripes, roll bar and quick jacks.

I AM thinking about removing the quick jacks and reinstalling my front and rear over riders and hoops for more of a "street" look.

Good stuff!

Thanks for the responses so far. Between the gallery pics and the eBay link, there are some great resources to lust after.

Oh, and I'm glad to see people using the snaps for the tonneau cover, as I've always liked that look.

I have a "Street Version" FIA, but it does have a hood scoop and the side pipes are underneath as were the FIA. But street seats, bumpers, and no stripes. Rickd

ask801...

Orig Street 427 is usually: No hood scoop, undercar exhaust, no rollbar, no rear fender lip, small gas cap, glove box and full bumper set and a 428 PI.
I ordered a Kirkham Street 427 on the same day as friend ordered his S/C. My serial number is 216 and his is 477. Seems like mine must have been an
orphan for a while as almost all the interest is in the S/Cs.
I found an original '66 428 Police Interceptor to put in mine and I wouldn't change a thing.
Go with the Kirkham, it's woth the fight with the wife in the long run.

Have fun.

This is what you need to study. csxinfo.net - Photo Gallery
Sunburst wheels, small filler cap, smooth rear fender, dash layout, exhaust, bumpers etc. If you would like more street car info check there or let me know. That's what I'm doing. Chuck and Frank both have them on CC also.

Yetiman 01-30-2008 04:34 PM

Well, mine qualifies other than the hood scoop (necessary evil on my car).

I sometimes question the choice to leave out the roll bar, and if it were easier to ad at this point in the game I would have put one in, but for me the street car style was exactly what I was after.

You will find that there are more then a few of us lurking the streets, and we even plot and plan our Cobra world domination by email between us, but mostly we share pics and jokes among ourselves.

With so few original S/C's built, It's amazing how many S/C replica's there are (including original street cars modified to S/C to various extent).

427 street cars

gentlemen, my ex - CSX 3327 street, had no scoop , no oil cooler, no rollbar, under car exhaust (GT350 style), sunbursts, no pronounced rear fender lip and a 427 NOT a 428. Regular street dash, small right rear wing fuel filler, full push bars and over riders. I'll try and post picks i next to my AK in my gallery when new computer arrives next week.Jim

Take look at my galley for a Kirkham street version. I wouldn't trade it for any ol' S/C! ;)

Saltytri

Pics are great. I'm curious, I took delivery in early '07 got KMP 216 just like yours only with the oil cooler front scoop. When did you order your car to get 396?
You in So. Cal? Looks like the background in your pics.

JBo's CSX3327 was the first Cobra I ever drove and it remains the "prototypical 427 Cobra" in my mind. I have driven 289s and several replicas as well as dozens AC MkIVs, but that car is my "first time" (be gentle with me....) And although I had CSX3326, I was never able to drive it due to a minor flaw (it was in numerous small pieces)

However, now 3327 has been "SC'ed" and no longer represents the breed.

I am very partial to the street look, no pipes, no scoops, no quick jacks. My favorite AC Mk IVs were the same, smooth, clean and quick.

Love the thread. Love 427 street cars. Its what I orig. wanted, But like stated above most of the interest seems to be with the SC. So the car I ended up buying was a SC because it was the right car at the right time at the right price plus I figured resale would be easier someday, but I still think nothing looks cooler than no scoop, no sidepipes, no bar, bumpers etc.

mickmate 01-30-2008 07:15 PM

I like this thread I'm collecting a few more inspirational pics. Hey Kurtmart where's your pics? Makes me wonder after a couple of rollover threads recently about no bar but I'm still going that route, they look sweeeeeeet!!!

Kzof 01-30-2008 07:16 PM

Oh yeah, and the pictures of that black one on the first page has me going nuts. Anybody want to buy an SC?:)
