Check out page 34 of the latest issue of Car and Driver magazine (March 2008). Its all about money! As usual.

Well that seems to be the general thinking, it's all about the money. I've stated and continue to believe it started with Shelby being pissed off at SAAC personel and it was 'revenge' that got the ball started.

With so many people involved that DO stand to make money off the deal, yeah, it is appropriate to conclude it has NOW become 'about the money'. The lawyers will make out no matter how it goes down or for what reason. Various employees certainly stand to gain if Shelby wins, now and into the future. Does Shelby himself care about the money? I'm sure he does, but it's deeper than that for him, it's 'personal'.

lovehamr 02-07-2008 05:30 PM

Here's a little fuel for the fire; for those who think that the leadership of the SAAC corporation have a tendency to be pompous, elitist and arrogant, can you imagine what they'll be like if they win!? Sheeeesh! They’ll be unlivable!

Very interesting!

Makes you wonder who is really 'making the final decisions' over at SAI?

About when, did Carroll's 20+ year relationship with SAAC change?

racerx,
One real Shelby collector and one Shelby wannabe collector:LOL:.

Since Bill, Evan, and I were the ones told to behave by Jamo. Evan being the only one refered to as REAL. Bill being very involved from many angles. I can only assume, and if I am wrong I apologize upfront. That you are referring to me? You type the word wannabe in a not so friendly manner.

As if it is a sin to want to build a replica, and not having done so as of yet, and maybe never. If that was your intention then it just shows how shallow a person can be. If not as I said before I apologize upfront. Since Tigers are in the registry, and I have owned one. I would think that has kind of taken me out of the wannabe category. It may make me a has been, but that's okay with me.

My first car being a 62 MGA with those lovely body lines. My 3rd car being a Tiger with that graceful power. I am very inclined to want to combine the two to enjoy one of the sweetest cars ever built, and you would fault me for that?;)

amy B 02-08-2008 12:21 PM

Jdog, this rumor is being fronted by others, as it is easy to blame me, I am the new person and I built team shelby, but those in the know, know how carroll feels, his press release was him, all him.

It is possible our sucess has made him stronger, possibly, but he was unhappy for a long time, he asked me to talk to SAAC at VIR, they said " we dont need carroll to continue" that of course was in the heat of the moment, and I expect they have been mad at him for a while as well.

This is between them, I said in the beginning we built team shelby for the new owners and enthusiasts, we wanted to do more for them, events, online, special things. You can blame me, that actually makes Carroll madder...

Do I support him, yes, 100%, someone should have picked up the phone, but there are many stubborn people in this fight, but good or bad he is the legend, he is the man with the name on the building.

I am sure I will get flamed. But if any of you have ever heard Carroll on this topic, you all know how he feels.

Amy...the tough point is... if you didn't 'cause' it...then you could have fixed it.

But, you chose not to.

Thats very pesumputious of you Ron. I I spoke to SAAc people when they posted the non renewal, I spoke to them again when they posted Neil's follow up. They wanted me to have Carroll call Rick first, that wasn't the right answer, SAAC Management should have called. Carroll spoke to others at SAAC, calls he made, the call needed to come from the top.

I could say the same to you, you are part of the team, why aren't you stopping the implosion of hate? The personal attacks, all the stuff sent to magazines....

I say the same to you.........

I think it goes back to what Excaliber said, possibly other people too. Based on absolutely pure speculation and very limited knowledge of the people (never met any of them, though I would like to), it would appear that spite, revenge and personality conflicts are what is the main driving force of this conflict. There can't be that much money to squeeze out of this. What? T-shirt, book, registry sales. It just doesn't seem like a whole bunch of money to argue over. We're not talking about some royalties on a super duper technology that will be licensed to the world.

I suggest a good therapist, a mediator, some cocktails, split the cash, and make nice and call off the lawyers.

computerworks 02-08-2008 01:19 PM

First, you have to let the steam out, otherwise the boiler will blow. Then, when the pressure is relieved, you go in and fix the boiler. :p

What do you expect any entity to do when attacked? This will now have to be settled in a manner that nobody likes.

If it was "all about the cars," we wouldn't have the lawyers at the gate.

RodKnock 02-08-2008 01:22 PM

Let's book a conference room, fly everyone to a nice warm sunny place and have a settlement conference.

It's not like you're looking into your crying child's eyes when their sick and you feel helpless because you can't help them. Just get over it. I'll move along now.

Tried that....it was turned down. Don't minimize the complexity of this, as it relates to strictly business issues.

I'm not really surprised by this but I do find it rather sad. We now learn that many people are getting dragged through this at great expense and personal cost because one or more proud and touchy players figure that they didn't get treated with due deference! How many times have I seen this happen in my professional life? Many, many dozens, to be sure. The result is that the Big Boys get the immense satisfaction of butting bellies like sixth-graders on the playground, encouraged by their sycophants (who may or may not include their lawyers). They usually come around to more reasonable and productive behavior at some point. Like, when they get tired of paying big attorney fee bills.

Is there anyone else out there who finds this whole mess an unseemly insult to the faithful Cobra community and to its traditions of cooperation, mutual assistance and respect of many different points of view?

........Yes.

When it gets to this point...someone has to win.

It didn't have to be that way.

Right now, a few thousand fans lose.

I find it very embarrassing to our hobby, our club and to CS. This squable will become the butt of jokes in the not too distant future.

I apologize Ron, but yes, I want to minimize the complexity. I was taught to compromise on "business issues" by the best, my employers, because there are so many other things in life that much more important. I don't know who's right and who's wrong, it's probably a little of both, but winning doesn't necessarily have to be the final answer here. There's always time. I'm probably the only one who feels this way, but that's how I feel.

The course can be reversed, everyone just has to try. Also, the business issues don't seem so complex to me when you contrast against unraveling of Enron or the current "derivative" mess in the sub-prime market. Those are complicated legal entanglements.

Listen, I've easily solved relationship issues that were much bigger than this... in business among companies that were also much bigger than this...and in a shorter amount of time, too.

You are reading here "iceberg data"...only 10% is showing.

A lot of invisible things need to be addressed too.
It is not all as it appears... it's not about the buck a year...and it's not about a snake logo.

..."it's all about the cars" :p
