Anybody driving with GY eagle billboard tires?

My manufacturer who's building my chassis ordered a set of Goodyear Eagle billboard tires to put on my team 111 rims. Should i buy them, they are not DOT and not build to withstand the conditions of the roads, some drive with them and that's your feedback i would like to hear. Could you give me a yes or no answer to determine if i should buy or not. Thanks guys!

If they are the typical "Billboard" tires that many of us run, they are bias ply and say "Sportscar Specials" on them.

They are great to drive on but can be difficult to balance and will "hunt" on the road if your alignment is off.

When driving aggressively they are predictable and will throttle steer well in my experience.

I had them on my Kirkham and I loved them. They didn't seem to hunt as many have said. I am ordering a set of Blue Streaks in the spring for the gt40.

Hi Michel, we have had several discussions about these tyres in the past and you will find various answers to your questions. The billboards are a beautiful looking tyre and would definitely be the pick for the vintage look. No, they are not DOT, they do tend to wander somewhat on uneven roads, they tend to flatspot when left in the garage for a prolonged period (sorts itself out after a couple of miles), depending on how you want the car to feel or look and depending on how much you can tolerate the tracking really depends on what choice you ultimately make. The Billboards grip in the dry and have really good grip in the wet (my experience), put them on, try them out and you decide whether they are for you or not. :)

I LOVE them!

Many discusions on these to say the least. I love mine and they are everything stated above. They are a bit challenging to balance, they throw rocks, they flat spot, and even still great tire. When heated the hold the road fantastic and offer a great ride.

GY Billboard stencil?

Does anyone know of a source for the stencil?

jdog

hey,littlecobra 02-03-2008 07:37 PM

nope, no stencil.

scrub off the 'sprayed on from factory' paint.
reletter with paint and small paint brush.
go over goof-ups with a black sharpie, ie outline the raised part with a sharpie.
(after you've painted!!)

I chose not to paint the 'eagle'. Just the goodyear.

I probably won't do it again, as i like the vintage patina my car is acquiring.

Can you get them in a good size for the Cobra on 16" rims? I just changes to 17" CS torq thrusters and Kumho Tires. Not to sure that I like the 17" rims.

Kristen,

You have both cars beat!

I agree, leave the old paint as it adds to the charm.........

bnewell 02-04-2008 09:55 AM

I agree with all of the above. I was using a white fabric pen to touch mine up, but I think I like the "aged" look better.................

p.s. Mike, if you don't like them I'll give you $500 for them!!

Terry;

These only come in 15's. If you're wanting that bad-ass, nostalgic look, 15-inch billboards are what you need anyway. They really add that extra something to a cobra. I have some "with" and "without" pictures in my gallery -- take a look and you'll see what I'm talking about

Where can these tires be had on the east coast?? if not what is Krause's number?
Also, for the fella not wanting his 17" rims...contact me, I may trade you my Halibrands in 15".

I don't get this 'hunting thing', it's such a minor problem I don't notice it anymore. Now flat spotting after sitting overnight I get that! Takes a few miles to warm them up and get them round again.

I use them primarily for the traction they offer, which is superb, both dry and wet. And they look terrific.

BigRed427 02-04-2008 11:53 AM

Don't they pick up and throw more stones?
