Dropping gas prices

I was sent this e-mail from a friend in Tennessee. For what it is worth.%/

Subject: Dropping Gas Prices

THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU
HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON.

This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his

engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the
gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take
time to read this please.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE

than the 'don't buy gas on a certain day' campaign that was going around

last April or May! It's worth your
consideration. Join the resistance!!!!

I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer, and

it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down?

We need to take some intelligent, united action.
The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't

continue to 'hurt' ourselves by refusing to buy gas.

It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can

really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super

cheap. Me too! It is currently $3.19 for regular unleaded in my town.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us

to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we

need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the
marketplace..not sellers.

With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need

to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we

hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we

can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas.

But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to

force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline

from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL.

And under no circumstances buy from CITCO. If they are not selling any

gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their

prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and

Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at

this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions

of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to
at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten
more (300 x10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches

the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION

consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten

friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED

MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.

That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and

all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you

just aren't a mathematician. But I
am . so trust me on this one.

How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to

ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people

could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!

I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential,
did you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest

that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES

TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.

I've read this one before last year as well. The problem I see is this... the initial stopage of buying their goods won't directly affect them, that's why the plan calls for a much longer amount of time. So what are you doing in the process? Well, drive 10 miles and count how many gas stations are selling those products. Because they'll all be out of business. So now those who are trying to 'stick it to the man,' have instead stuck it to themselves.

The only real way is to cut back totally. If you need something, make one trip and do multiple errands at once rather than multiple trips. Drive cars that get better mpg! While you're on that drive to see how many stations htere are within 10 miles, count how many big suvs and trucks you see with 1 person in them. I'm talking Expeditons, excursions, F series pickups, suburbans, tahoes, etc etc etc. you'd be surprised! I must say that i do fall into this catagory (family of 3 in an expedition), I am working on getting my wife a new car for work and I already have my beater. Then the expy will be used much less.

I learned supply and demand in school and until the demand drops significantly, the cost will be high.

SP01715 03-12-2008 05:28 PM

It won't matter. I just sold three 76 stations and the big oil companies don't just sell their product through their branded stations. I am not a big government guy, but their is no way to hurt the oil companies short of regulation. I got out of the station business because the oil companies are making money hand over fist, and the station owners get screwed by them more and more every year.

This is a very valid point. Many people blame the station owners. They are getting screwed by the oil companies just as much as the consumer is.

fsstnotch 03-12-2008 05:57 PM

Yep, that's why the stations would go out of business and the oil company doesn't give 2 ****s!

ZOERA-SC7XX 03-12-2008 06:11 PM

Most of those stations are company owned. Give it a try, it can't hurt.

Slojo 03-12-2008 06:12 PM

This is the most retarded thing I have heard! Anyone that knows basic economics knows that the laws of supply and demand will dictate that the establishments that your frequent instead of Exxon and Mobil will raise prices, not drop them. Nice try. The only way to get off the gas/oil addiction is to not buy/use any of it from any place.

fsstnotch 03-12-2008 06:16 PM

Hell, the T/A by my house closed down last spring because they couldn't afford to pay their electric bill! lol What is the world coming to?

Most of the gas stations where I live which are BP, Kwikfill, shell are owned by indians. Most of them struggle to stay open.

diegokid 03-13-2008 06:29 AM

exxon

Where I'm at the price for Exxon is the same as at Wal-Mart.

fsstnotch,

I think you are exactly correct. Most of the gas stations here are either closed or having to sell their soul to stay open. Are you still in Iraq? I have a good friend from Pennsylvania that is flying some type of re-con missions over there. You-all stay safe, we believe in what your doing.

fsstnotch 03-13-2008 12:32 PM

Yep, 75 days 2hrs 27 minutes roughly.... haha

Jerry Clayton 03-13-2008 12:41 PM

We need to be demanding of these Presidential candidates that we need some refineries built and start pumping up our own crude---get energy prices straightened out and people and employers will be able to afford health care

The Hillary/ Ferraro/ Obama three ring circus is amusing---first black man---no, no, no---first female pres, no no no first female on pres ticket

Buy American---energy, military tankers, etc----mow your own lawn( save all that fuel the landscapers are burning up on the road)

Want more of my ideas??? gotta be careful, someone will shoot me thinking I might run for office

Actually most stations are not company owned. ConocoPhillips (the parent company of 76) owns very few stations, and I know most of the competition that was in the area of my stations (which covered three cities) and there was only one company owned Chevron. I know ConocoPhillips does not want to be in the station ownership business, and they are actually forcing dealers to buy the property under their stations. There is very little money in owning stations for big oil companies.

The liberals and their policies are why were are in this mess. No new refineries, no new nuke plants and no drilling off California and Alaska. The funny thing is, the liberals I know complain the most about fuel prices but continue to vote for these stupid left wing politicians that are contributing to the problem.

4into4 03-13-2008 02:04 PM

I think the best solution is for the liberals/green folks to stop buying gasoline, stop flying in airplanes, and shut off their air conditioners, and the furnaces they don't need anyhow with all this global warming we're causing. They can ride around on their bicycles smugly knowing they're not using the fossil fuels they're so vehemently opposed to. Meantime, with such a cut in demand, prices will fall dramatically as supplies overflow. That would be a good start, then we definatly need to start drilling in Alaska ( as 92% of it's citizens want us to do ) and building more refineries. Imagine what the prices would be, and what our economy could be!

mtml427 03-13-2008 03:03 PM

I don't consider myself a liberal but the idea that conservatives or liberals have much do with the current gas prices is nonsense (in my opinion). This gets down to supply and demand with the underlying policy of make as much as you can regardless of the ramifications. There are no new refineries because more supply would decrease the cost of oil products. There is no new technology on board to help solve our dependency problems because of the lobbyists who lobby against changing the status-quo. Oil companies are making record profits because there is no hesitation about s......ing you or me. The irony may be that their greed will come back to haunt them because of the straggle they have placed on our economy. Oil should be considered a necessary resource barred from commodity trading. Over 50% of the cost of oil is due to investor speculation. It is not entirely what the companies are being charged by foreign suppliers. One other oxymoron is the idea that Iraq is being allowed to keep all of the profits from their oil while we lose our trooops (or our children) and incurr huge debt being purchased by the Chinese which translates to a less valuable dollar.

427 S/O 03-13-2008 03:21 PM

Guys, Fsstnotch is correct, cutting back will have a HUGE impact. I heard recently that we are not buying as much because folks are paying closer attention to their driving habits. When they get to the point of having those tankers backed up, you'll see some serious results.

w-lewis 03-13-2008 03:27 PM

In my town, most if not all gas stations, regardless of brand, purchase all of their gas from the same local supplier.

Liberals have blocked the building of new refineries for years. Liberals have blocked the building of new nuclear plants for years. Liberals have consistantly required different fuel blends that cost more money to make (MTBE etc...) and usually are found to have problems and then the blend is changed again. Liberals have blocked the drilling of oil in Alaska and off the coast of California. Liberals have blocked to building of wind farms that would help to conserve oil (Ted Kennedy) because they would be built near their mansions. I could go on but I think you get my point. Other than that I agree with the rest of your statement. :)

xracerbob 03-13-2008 06:53 PM

How about increasing the supply side? Drill Anwar, Drill off the FL coast, Drill off the CA coast, build refineries. America has sat back and let the rest of the world and the greenies dictate energy policy for us. We've been the bug for too long, time to be the windshield again.

The biggest driver in the current price run up is the decline in the dollar against foreign currencies. If we weren't buying so much foreign oil, our balance of trade would greatly improve and the dollar would stabilize and strengthen.

No politician has the balls to do the right thing when it comes to energy policy and our whole country suffers for it.
