What's the best way to sell a Cobra now?

I say now... because it seems that the downturn in the economy has really hit the car sales market, as well as housing. I'm wondering whether it would be better to try a local paper or something like Hemmings? Anyone with any Cobra sales experience out there?

Thanks in advance

I've sold three cobras. Cobra Country sold two of them and Auto Trader sold the other. Requires patience. Lots of patience. Hemmings was expensive so is our Local rag. I think the best bang for the buck other than this site is Cobra Country. http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html

I agree with DU. Cobra Country is a good site. You couldn't have picked a worse time though. The market is flooded. Lots of Cobras in the $20K-$30K range and they aren't selling either. You just have to find that person who is looking for exactly what you have and you have to be willing to take a BIG loss. Sorry if I seem like a downer but I watch the market closely. My Corvette has probably dropped $40K in the last year. But that only applies if it were for sale.

I'll second the above thread...I bought mine on Cobra Country...Now is the best time to get the most money for your car...prices go down the closer you get to fall and winter.

Thanks for the reply... I know new car sales have tanked, and I'm talking about cars that are needed to get to work... I'm sure these "Luxury" items are going to take a big hit!

Ronbo 04-15-2008 05:42 PM

It's either a good time to buy (like now) or a good time to sell, never both.

Your best price would possibly come from overseas, since the recession is mainly isolated to the US (for now).

Also as stated the desirability and/or rarity of the car will be a factor. The higher dollar cars will no doubt maintain better value than the more common models.

Cobra Country and here at CC. But get a professional to take tons of great photos with a good background. Price it right and sit tight. Did I mention you will need some good, no, make that great photos?

Cobras don't really drop in value. The only person who will ever usually lose money on a Cobra is going to be the builder who decided to build the car of his dreams and got bit by the "chrome-it" bug.

It doesn't matter whether it's an up market or a down market, your Cobra is worth exactly the same in either market. The only thing that will change is the type of shoes the buyer wears when he shows up to purchase your car.

An important thing to remember: a Cobra isn't a production car. It's not going to devalue like a Porsche, a Ferrari or a Corvette. Don't get tricked into believing that line.

The only thing you have to have to sell your car is patience. Price it right, and the buyer will show up.

Your pal,
Meat.

The best places would be ClubCobra and CobraCountry, but two other possibilities are Craigslist, which is one of the best places to advertise almost anything here in the SF Bay Area and free, as well as www.collectorcartraderonline.com. No one reads the newspaper anymore.

I agree 100% with meat. THE ONLY PLACE TO SELL IS COBRA COUNTRY. PERIOD.

A highly unusual electrical short in your detached garage might work....

Screw it, I'm keeping mine! Couldn't afford to replace it with retirement coming down the road, might as well hold on. :D

If it's a want to sell then I agree with the above, here and Cobra Country. If it's a matter of "you have to sell", then Ebay with no reserve and let the chips fall where they may. While I've never had to sell, I've never used Cobra Country, instead using Ebay as I get world wide coverage for the cost of a local weekly newspaper ad...

Thanks for all the info... This isn't a distress sale, it's a "Too many toys sale" so I think I'll give Cobra country a try..

What Bill brings up is a very good point. Even if you have no intention of selling it on Ebay (I don't recommend it AND set a reserve high enough that if it does then you are happy), it does put the word out to a very large audience that it is for sale and if you do it right, it could be of help.

Ebay for quick (what its worth) CASH $$$. Like others have said GOOD pictures and a LOT of them

Aren't all our cars for sale for the right price? Mine certainly is.

Alan7407 04-16-2008 09:25 AM

I bought mine on Cobra Country. Was dealing with a fella in Long Beach, CA. who wanted $59K. I offered $57,500 and he turned it down. That was last Sept. It is still being offered on Cobra Country. I think he knows he made a mistake. I finally found one only 15 miles from my house and got it for $56.5K

Bottom line, Cobra Country is great.

$83,999 in one week!

I just sold my Cobra thru a consignment car dealer.

My Cobra sold for $83,999 in one week!

I told him the minimum I'd accept and let him do his thing.

Sure, I had to pay him but, you get what you pay for.

I could have listed it on other websites but I notice that most cars were sitting a long time. I'm spending my money this week!

If I had a tooth ache I'd go to the dentist I wouldn't try to fix it myself. Hire a pro!

Good Luck
jdog
