Requesting a Tow Truck

Hello All,

I would like to know from those of you that have requested a tow truck, how you request it.

Basically, Can you request to not use chains only to use tire straps.

Also how do they winch the car up on the bed with out scratching the powder coat on the chassis.

Request that they send a Split Bed truck. You will have that issue if you don't get a split bed truck. Trust me I went through it last year. It took several tries until it was determine that a split bed is what is required.

What is the difference between a flat bed and a split bed truck

A split bed allows half of the bed on the flat bed to become practically horizontally with the ground allowing your car to be brought on the bed preventing any possibility of scraping your front. Once your car occupy that half, the bed flattens allowing your car be brought up all the way. I witness this once with my BDR. Never saw it before, but it works like charm.

i just tell them i need a flatbed, no chains and tell themm its a million dollar cobra. they usually send the company's best stuff. i had no problems and the driver even ran an errand we were on for us.

I've had many Cobra's towed on a regular flatbed. Drivers are always careful and I've never had a problem.

Oly used a flat bed, never herd of a split bed before. The drivers are always very careful. The only issue I had with the chain / hooks was where to hook them. My chassis is not powder coated and I am not super worried about every little scracth as the car was built to be driven, I did purchase a small tow strap so I could loop it though the chassis so the chain / hooks have an easier job of getting a hold of something. Plan this winter to do a little work and either look for or add some place to get a good hold on the frame, tow hooks or holes without causing any damage, all of this in hopes I never have to use them.

My Backdraft is only 3 inches off the ground, and the Split Bed was the only way to get it on there without scratching. The Tow Company sent several tow trucks and finally they agree that a Split Bed was the only way to get it up there without scratching.
That was my first experience with Spilt Bed. Never saw it before, but it make sense.
It is all relative to how much you want to preserve your car. Some folks leave their cars out to the elements, obviously they don't care and other has theirs in a garage and kept in pristine conditions all the time. Last Friday I was at a Golf Course and there was a Thunderstorm and there was a Cobra in the parking lot soak completely. When I got closer and look inside it was full of trash and beer cans, obviously that person don't care for there car.
It is all relative to how much you value your toy...

If you must get a regular flatbed truck, request a tow strap and about 4 2x6's to get the front end up on the truck.

I ask for a hydraulic flat bed. Nylon straps. Tell them it is a very expensive car.

Only had to do it once, and not for the Cobra.

Another name for a flat bed is a roll-back wrecker -- you never want a typical wrecker hooking up to your cobra! I have all roll-back wrecker companies in my area entered in my cell phone. Thankfully, I've never needed one of them!

If you ever do need to have your snake towed on a roll-back, make sure they put a piece if cribbing (4 by 4 piece of wood they all carry) between your frame and the straps/chains (acts as a spacer) to ensure that the paint on the bodywork around your oil cooler doesn't get damaged.

Have used AAA twice and requested flat bed and let them know it was a Cobra, low off the ground. Driver was extra careful and also made quick side trip with car on.
