My Cummins Ram gets it's best MPG in the 85-90 vicinity.THe 55 MPH thing is just another motorist hand-job.

S.O.B!!!!You are thick-If you are doing the limit in the left lane YOU ARE THE ONE TO BLAME.
This is the third time telling you that the left lane is NOT A TRAVEL LANE!!!
What part of that don't you get?
Fight for your rights? Are you nuckin' futs? You don't have a "right" to obstruct traffic.PERIOD.
It doesn't matter what you or I or Jamo or Ron THINKS the law should be.The law is what it is.And YOU are the one breaking it.

As an example a certain stretch of road I travel has a posted speed limit of 55mph, the normal traffic speed is 65mph,and the cops will stop and fine you for doing 10 mph over the limit only if you are doing 75 mph...go figure that one. This has to tell you that blocking the fast lane at the "posted limit" deserves you being pushed out of the way and into the closest ditch.
And to add I practice what I preach and I always am the first to move over for a faster driver!

Here in Az,the limit is 75.Which means people are doing 80(at minimum). If i see headlights gaining on me,you bet yer a$$ i move over. Most of the time it's some California passing me.(There's my obligatory shot at Jamo)

Terry, you cannot make the assumption that what you think should be the law or the way it is interpreted is up to you to enforce.
That is what the police are for, if it gets to you that much pull over, break out your cell phone and call the HP.
Your lane clogging efforts are guaranteed to result in more than one case of road rage and a lot worse.

How can you possibly interpret someone passing above the speed limit a form of cowering or getting walked all over. With all due respect that view is totally asinine and completely self serving.
I figured they just wanted to go faster than me for their own reasons.
I would never even have considered interpreting other traffic passing me in such a personally offensive, challenging or bullying way.
Your point of view is scary, these are my highways too, they are not your personal format to assert your indignant ego.
If you want to fight for your rights you need to get the hell off the highway to do so. There is a lot more at stake than your view of how your personal rights are being affected.
When there are hundreds of of cars and trucks weighing 2 tons and up hurtling along at 50 plus mph there is lot more at stake than your personal rights issues, our families and their lives count a lot more than the self serving reasoning you cite.
You need to go find somewhere else to establish your "rights" so you don't get walked all over, not the fast, left, passing lane of a four lane highway averaging 65mph.
You play a very selfish and dangerous game sir.

Many people think that anyone driving faster or slower than them is an idiot. Not me. I move to the right for a faster driver any time, it is being courteous. I appreciate it when other drivers are courteous for me. It is very rare that someone won't move over the right for me. But if they don't, they are just being a jerk. Being courteous is not cowering. This has nothing to do with fighting for your rights. Perhaps you are just an angry person, looking for a fight? I don't see any difference between your attitude and the attitude of a person who tail gates. Neither attitude is courteous. Both attitudes are aggressive.
You remind me of the way my grandfather drove when he was in his 80s and 90s. He spent more time looking at his rear view mirror than looking straight ahead. And spent most of his time angry at the people behind him, thinking that the people behind him could see the grimaces he was making at his rear view mirror. I always wondered why he never rear ended someone in front of him when he was giving a dirty look in the mirror. I guess he just drove so slow it was unlikely to happen.
I don't understand how a sports car could be the right car for you; my grandfather had a 74 Dodge Polara...

The problem is mine. I'll accept that to a certin extent. Yes, I am an AH. You guys now have your blood pressure up. Feel better.
Why don't we let this thread get back to what it was about anyway. Glyn, sorry this thread went in this direction. You deserve to get it back to where you started it.
Even if the speed limit goes back to 55, 90% or more of the drivers are still going to drive over the speed limit, just like they do now. If the speed limit is 55 they will drive 75-80 anyway.

I was told by a police officer once that if you feel uncomfortable about the distance someone is from your rear bumper to tap the breaks to let them know.
The cop that told you to tap your brakes was an idiot! That's the quickest way to piss off those guys and like was said before could get you shot!

Good on ya for keeping a good head, AH.

Yea, but I can take it. One of these days I'll learn to just keep my opinions to myself.

55 coming?
Glyn, I also have taken notice of the groundswell towards the reintroduction of the 55 mph speed limit and I am amazed at the apathetic reaction I get when I discuss this with my fellow Cobra/performance car drivers. Nobody seems to remember those horrible 20+ years with the local law enforcement giddily writing tickets for the town coffers. We're doomed!

tcrist-
Fair warning- more than one racing associate of mine has executed the "pit" maneuver while driving rental cars on people that drive like you. Nary a scratch on either car.

I just heard a report on the news that the miles drivien in the month of May is down, about 20 billion miles less than one year ago. I think the total number is around 250 billion so that's around 8%. The government is squaking that with people driving less and buying fewer gallons of fuel that there is now a shortfall in tax collection from fuel sales.
1) if lowering the speed limit actually saved fuel there would be even less taxes collected from fuel sales.
2) As people go to better mpg cars, less taxes will be collected.
3) I have noticed that more and more people are driving slower, in my area. I almost never see anyone pulled over any more.
Add this all up, and the high price of fuel is hurting government revenue. The government is never content to live on less . So, lower the speed limit and write tickets all day long, and they can collect more money than before. The government cares not about poor people. This is all about them collecting more money.

Just get the @#$% outa the way
Most guys like tcrist end up rethinking ther position after a good ol boy runs them off the road and desides to stop screwing with the other drivers.Dont say you were not warned .Our big truck actually gets better milage at 55 so I stay over on the right. When im ther sometimes I feel like im in the way so il pick it up a little so im not a rolling obstickle to traffic flow.
