That's a shame, a Cobra, Mustang and all around car and good guy. A good innings though, glad we had him. I hope he prerecorded the next Cars soundtrack as Doc. I told my kids and their first thought was him not being able to do the next movie.

I still use one of his best lines, "Boy I got visions and the rest of the world wears bifocals".....a Truly tremendous loss to the acting profession and the racing sport.

I buy his products on a regular basis, popcorn, salsa, and salad dressing, as all the proffits go to charity. We lost a good one, but he lived his life to the fullest, no regrets.

Rest in Peace old friend.
Probably has one of the best filmography's of any actor from his generation. His charity work, later in life, is second to none.

A good friend of mine races up at Limerock Park, and he knows quite a few people that work there. One of those friends called him one day towards the end of August and said that they had been asked to leave the track for a couple of hours so that Mr. Newman could privately take some farewell last laps on a track that he loved so much. The friend had also been told that Mr. Newman would probably not last through Sept. hence the request.
I was going to post this last month but out of respect for Mr. Newman, I thought better of it.
I would have loved to have been there to see that, if for no other reason than to just give him the slow clap. He deserved it given his generosity and talent.
Unfortunately we don't see many like him anymore. What a true loss all around.

When I was 16, I worked for a guy who raced a showroom stock class 280Z on the weekends. We were at Lime Rock racing one weekend. We blew a thermostat and did not have a replacement. There was a big red, white and blue tractor trailer with cool IMSA 280Zs not too far from us. My boss said to go over to the trailer and ask Gene Crowe (the Datsun crew chief) whether we could borrow one from his team. I walked into the back of this 18 wheeler and asked for Gene. I couldn't see anything inside the trailer because my eyes hadn't adjusted to the dark after being in the sun all day. A guy who was looking through the tool box in the trailer said that Gene wasn't there, but asked if he could help. I told him what happened to our car and what we needed. He said, "Let's take a look, we everything." After a minute or two he says "Ah - ha, I think I have what you need." He handed me the part, wouldn't let me pay for it and we walked out of the trailer. We got out in the light and I realized that it was Paul Newman. He could see that I just realized who he was. He chuckled a bit (what a cool smile!) and said "Best of luck!" He seemed like a really good guy.

At Limerock for Memorial Day weekend, one of his engineers and a mechanic worked with us at Kinetic for the Koni Challenge. One of the guys described him as an "actor in the movies, the genuine article everywhere else". What higher compliment could you pay?

Paul Newman was a Man's Man and a great role model for anyone who wonders about the meaning of life. The meaning of life is to live it.

His acting talent and generosity speak for themselves. But here's a guy who STARTED competitive racing at 43, was on the winning IMSA GTS class in the 1995 24 hours of Daytona - at the age of 70 and was still a team driver at Daytona in 2004 at 80.
If anyone knows of a more incredible story in the history of any sport - I'm all ears.
This was a man who lived more in a week than most people do in a lifetime. Inspirational and humbling. You just wish he could've gone on forever.

If you have never seen "Hombre" well worth the watch. (Also one of my favorite movie quotes at the end...by Richard Boone.) One of my top three favorite westerns. He will be missed.

Another American icon and genuine good guy passes on. The world benefited from his example and generosity. May his legacy long remain
It is difficult and about impossible to find true champions for our youth to admire and emulate in this decline of morality world we face today. I pray the winds of change blow again with the genesis for the American values the USA was founded and defended.

Got to meet him very briefly as I entered the Falcon Inn near Brazelton GA. during the SCCA Runnoffs in the early eighties. I was just arriving to check in and he was returning drenched from his early AM jog. All he said was "Jesus" as I opened the door for him.
Always liked him as an actor, driver and true American.
