hydraulic throwout bearing

I am looking to upgrqae to a hydraulic throwout bearing. My knowledge of these units is limitied and have heard that many of them tend to leak. Any suggestions on any of these products that do not leak? Advantages / Disadvantages?

Not sure of pro's and con's,(except for space constaints) but I have used several "Tilton" throw-out bearings with great success and zero leaks. I have heard of other brands leaking.

I have use several in mine customers cars and have great success with the tilton setup. It is more expensive but I think it is worth the price, and I get no leaks. I like to use the input shaft adapter which allows you to screw on the throw out bearing to get proper clearances. Very easy to use.

There is a wealth of information on hydraulic throw out bearings on this site. Just use the search button. I replaced mine with an external unit. Once you have a failure, you will regret having an internal unit. There are many folks that like them, the one's that don't had failures. One brand in particular is the sh*ts......McLeod. Corvettes have had them for years (not McLeod).

Just got my external setup from Kirkham today, was about the same price as the McCleod internal that I wish I hadn't bought...

15,000Mi. on my tilton.
No leaks, never had to adjust, never had to re-bleed. Works flawlessly, can sit all winter, jump in the seat & the clutch is right there ready to go.
Thinking I might flush the fluid this winter--just because

Stay away from McLeod. I've had a Tilton Racing bearing in for over 26k miles, going on 9 years and never had a problem.

I have contacted Tilton and gotten the download. Their quad seals are far superior than the McLeod o-riing seals (not designed for dynamic applications). Thanks for all of the opinions and info. I will be ordering the tilton in a day or two.

I installed my first Mcleod hydraulic release bearing in 1998. Lots of chatter on the net about problems.... I had none. Ran it hard on the track, lots of street miles over the years. Built a new motor this summer, sent my old unit back to Mcleod for a rebuild, they didn't support the unit it was too old.... He suggested their new improved version, he discounted it, I put it in, and it works great. It is a very nice piece and easy to setup.

Thanks for all of the input. I just let go of the cash and bought the 600 series Tilton release bearing kit. Two part numbers. TIL-61-621 (summit) and 61-604 (summit). These will be mounted to a TKO-600 Tranny mounted to a lakewood bell housing.

If you are considering one of these bearings, there are two bits of info Tilton will need to match you up properly.

1. Distance from the outside edge of the bellhousing (where the tranny mounts) to the diaphragm of the pressure plate.

2. Clutch disk diameter. ( I have a 11" disk)
