9000 HP ??????????????????

Try about 1800 to 2000 HP in a Top Sportsman car.

What class in NHRA allows an 815 cu in motor?

Top Fuel, and on a good day Top Alcohol get up to 8,000 hp @ 456ci?

456ci is tops right?

Here's a bit of info about top fuel from Kenny Bernstein's web site:

Quote:
Engine

Supercharged 500 cubic inch TFX aluminum hemi V-8 block

Bore & Stroke
4.19 x 4.50 inches

Horsepower
7,000 to 8,000

Acceleration
Zero to 100 miles per hour in .8 seconds
Zero to 275 miles per hour in 3 seconds
Zero to 330 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds
I understand they can go 0-60 in one car length...

Here's the pro stock mountain motor info from Jon Kaase's site:

Quote:
815 Cubic Inch Pro Stock Ford HEMI Engine
1700+ horsepower
Since the deck height is much greater than the production block based engines, you could probably fit one of these in a Cobra if you moved the hood upward by about a foot...

Hi E, Yes, Top Fuel. Tony Schumacher runs 500 cubes. I'll try posting a link to a good read. I don't know if it will be a hot link or if you have to copy & paste into your search engine.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=120159

Also, I think the Pro Stock & Pro Mod classes run 815 cubes. Anyway, The Top Fuel & Pro-Stock/Mod engines are incredible & huge dollars. Just to stand next to one when it's launching is an experience all by itself.

Regards,

All Pro classes in the NHRA are limited to 500 CI engines.

Correct!

Sorry to confuse by not being more specific: IHRA allows "mountain motors", currently topping out around 815 cubic inches
