Default 1963 Ford Galaxie

I was hoping to get some feed back on a possible purchase. Here is the info:

1963 2 Door Coupe
406 Tri Power
3 on the tree
3200 original miles
Same owner since new

Is this car worth looking at and how much do you think is worth.

Thanks,

Allan

Allan,

The 406 and the ultra low miles makes this a desirable automobile for a collector provided that the car is rust free and semi original. Valuation would be difficult at best unless you have pictures and a far more detailed description of the car and it's options list.

"Fastback?" Yes...buy it. The 406 tri power was a "Thunderbird" motor of around 400hp.

But you knew that before you posted.

I had a 1963 Galaxie with the 406 and a 4 speed for about 6 months before trading it in for a 1964 Galaxie 500XL with the 427 dual 4 and four speed. I believe they only used the 406 in the Galaxies for 1962 and 1963. There was also a single 4 barrel version. But check the cars vin and be sure that is really the tri power 406 as some changed 390 to the tri power and then put 406 emblems on the car. If everything is as stated, it should be worth a good amount because of the few sold and the even fewer survivors. I got back what I paid for mine and that was way back in 64. I have been looking for the past 7 years for a 1964 Galaxie 500XL like mine that had all of the options and have only found two that were factory and in good shape, they had been restored and the Cheapest wanted $80K. Not bad for a car that I gave $4,600 for. The 64 is one of two cars that I really wish I had kept.

I went to Hemmings Motor News and looked at the 1962 Galaxie 500 XLs they have listed, just a few, and they have either been restored or have dual 4 barrels on them. Also all had 4 speeds and the price range was pretty wide. Maybe you could go look and see which one may come the closest to what you are looking at and get an idea. Also remember the 3/2 was the preferred option as was the 4 speed, but the fact that the one you are looking at is completely original and unrestored will make up a lot of the difference. The restored ones are for the most part better than they came from the factory. I also saw a 1964 Galaxie 500XL with the dual 4/427 and 4 speed that was close to mine and they want $89,500 for it.And it has been restored but all humbers match per the add.

The 3 on the tree feature seems strange on this car. I wonder how many 406 cars came with it?

Alan ... In addition to my Cobra , I also have a 1963 1/2 Galaxie , Q Code with a 4 speed Toploader . The best advice I can think of is to make sure there is supporting documentation on the car proving it what they say it is . I`m not saying that it is being misrepresented , but over the years , those cars could have had a lot of things changed . I walked away from a 1966 Fairlane , 427 some years ago as it had a service block instead of the original and it wasn`t worth the price .
Those Galaxies also had a rust problem in the lower rear quarter panels just in front of the rear tires ... had to replace both on my car during restoration . If you get the car , I can give you some good sources for parts and advice on what is correct .
Don`t hold me to this , but I believe the 3 carbs were sent in the trunk along with the manifold and were installed by the dealer , even though the car was ordered with the carbs . I was told that was just the way Ford did it back then .
There is also a Galaxie Club of America you might check with . The low mileage and the tri power make it pretty desirable , but the 3 speed takes a little away as most ( according to my books ) had the 4 speed trannys .
Per my reference book .... in 1963 , 3,465 cars total were made with the G code engine .... 406 , 405 hp .
You didn`t say if it was a 500 , 500 XL or Galaxie . In the 500XL boxtop , there were 29,713 , in the 500 XL ... 49,733 , and the Galaxie ... 30,335 , according to Ford .
Good luck !

Thanks to all, I found out some more. Actually it is a 1962 Galaxie 500, I am going to try and take a look this weekend. The car was used buy the old man and then he just stored it, the current owner is the next door neighbor who grew up seeing the car. Will see.

Allan: I like your signature line but I think I've seen it somewhere before though.

Please post pics of your Cobra. I would love to see pics.

If memory serves me right, I believe that is the T85 3-speed with overdrive. I had a '61 Starliner with that tranny, and it was pretty stout. Overdrive was engaged by pulling a knob on the dash.

Galaxy's are so cool! I have been thinking about getting one as cruiser/tow vehicle.
My all time favorite Galaxy is the "Tobacco King" That car is art.
If the numbers make sense, Buy it.

Hi Allan!
You are right on. Go for that "Tobacco King" stance.
Can you just imagine how crazy that car must be when you light the rocket drag axle???? LOL Hold on to your hat!
Hopefully your deal will work out, because you will have a lot of fun with a Galaxie (improved spelling)
