"Maybe it is a FiberJet body.. He had 2-3 of them laying about the back of his shop about 4 years ago. One of them looked quite similar. "
Definitely NOT a FiberJet body.

It's left hand drive and the dash is just lying in place. I didn't realize I was going to end up posting pictures on a forum or I would have taken more pictures when I pulled the tarp off of it with all of the parts taken off.
You can't believe how I felt as soon as I read the post that it was impossible to register in Ohio. I am going out this morning and taking some more pictures of the car so I can get it off to the BMV in Columbus to see what they say but I am getting the impression that I may have to sell the car because of Ohio.
Thanks to everyone who posted. I should have an answer as to whether or not I have to abandon the project in the next week or so.

ZX,
Col's State Police in Columbus is unfortunately going to tell you the same thing as I did. However per the ORC it is illegal in Ohio to sell any type of vehicle "without title!". A court case if it should come about will/should be easy to win plus legal fees and punitive damages if you have to go that far! You can ask OSP for the code numbers of the ORC for a llittle leverage against the nice guy that sold it to you. (Me thinks he knew about the MSO fiasco and unloaded it?)

Zoera, et.al, it is highly illegal and federal offense to take titles and each state is slowly going through every title to catch these cars! Look what has happened in Californai-New York, Ohio huge fines, cars impounded, jail time. Ohio IS right behind Californai. Remember Titles Unlimited in Arkansas? He went to jail and as far as I know he is still there five years later. A guy in Ohio took a mustamng title and registered his Cobra with it- 2dr Ford Cp, itTook two years but they got him, impounded his car never to be released. Been preaching against this practice for over five years- it's coming to fruition faster and faster.
COEBRA: Yes, but the car has to be absolutely and totally home made with all the receipts (notartized). If you built your own frame from scratch you even need reeipts for the steel. Kit Cars etc. are defined as self assembeled in Ohio, Scratch built are defined as home builds- big difference in Ohio.
PLEASE people do not play around with titles. The new registrations, immediate comparisons via the computer, the guys that may and usually do check your cars physically will put the NO-NO- on you and your toy!
It isn't worth it!

Well I have made some calls and it sounds like I have two options right now. I can either sell the car or contact the courts to see if I can get a court ordered title. I have been doing some reading on laws in other states and it looks like it is easier to get titles in other states.
In one instance you can get a title but you have to put some money into an account that is returned to you after a few years if nobody claims the vehicle. Right now I am going to contact a few lawyers to find out what my options are and to see if it is financially feasible to get a court ordered title.
I don't want to put any time and effort into the built with out knowing if I can get a title. The whole point of the build is to enjoy it and not rush it along to the end to find out that you can't drive the car.
I will post up the results of this after I find out what happens.

ZX900, Listen to Double Venom , do not use a false title , they are checking for this in a number of states and the people who did this will get in trouble . Your problem with the sale is you did not buy a car from the seller you bought parts, all he has to give you is recites. How do I know , I had to post a bond for 3 times the value of the finished car and the state assigned a vin to the car and had to appear in court to get it done . After three years the bond is dropped . A very bad Kit dealer in Conn. was selling Kits and bodies out the back door and was not paying off the floor plan at the bank or his investor . This was about five years ago and this was reported to the east coast DMV,s and set a chain of events, a number title mills into court and they are looking for the Kits . You may have one of them , send me a private message and I will tell you more. I do not want to hurt the differant people who where scammed .

I don't know about Ohio, but I built a Lister in Arizona with no MSO, I had to supply a bond for the title (available from any commercial bonding agency), cost about $300.00 and no more problem

Ironman,
Arizona is right behind Alabama for titeling! Mayb it's all the vintage cars that get sold out of back yards that have been sitting for decades- No one knows where the title is!
I bought a 1930 Chevrolet that the owners daughter had driven back and forth to school (Phoenix) with illlegal tags on. For $5.00 the DMV ran a check on it until they came up with the last title-1969. Nothing after, they were able to contact the 1969 owner and he said he knew it had been sold at least times after he sold it.
Nothing came back from L.E.A.D.S. so they made up a new title for me and away I went. Think if cost me all of #30.00 plus the original $5.00.
Those were the days!
