The ZR1 is an amazing engineering accomplishment ... a 'super car' that can go from a daily driver (of sorts) to a track car and do both better than most exotic cars, especially when you consider the price.
That being said, the pure beauty of the Ford GT, it's heritage and performance are for me the hands down winner. You put a Ford GT and ZR1 in a parking lot full of car enthusiasts and I'll bet the Ford GT draws a bigger crowd.

No doubt the ZR1 is the faster and better car for many things, but I would take the Ford GT in a heartbeat. And I do like Corvettes so it isn't a Ford/Chevy thing with me.
JWD,
The only fair way to do this would be to post the same poll on a Corvette forum and combine the results. To do it only on a Ford based forum is ridiculous.
Jim
And to post a similar poll on a Corvette Forum wouldn't be as ridiculous. Why not post them on a MOPAR Forum and see who wins?

Well I posted a poll on a SRT/10 forum I belong to, so we will see what the MOPAR guys have to say.
It's also in the Offensive Forum. If you are easily offended, you may not want to go there. We get to really speak our minds there.

I don't think you would need a pulley on the FGT not to get "smoked" by the ZR1. Stock, ZR1 may be slightly faster although 1/4 times are comparable. A Heffner tune (allows the engine to run the way it was meant to run) and an Ford Racing Exhaust puts you at about 600 hp without the pulley.

But then you tune the Vette and are ahead again. So you will have to call Whipple and get a bigger charger, then you do the same for the Vette, then you go back to Hef for the twin turbo kit, then you do the same with the Vette. Then my uncle beats up your uncle.
I would take the GT out of the two.
Jamo has thrown the best looking car made today in the mix. The dealers are also offering steep discounts on them. I could do with out his giant Italian watches though... my dainty wrists can't handle them.

JWD: I aware of the potential for biased results here but thought in light of the discussion last week this poll would be interesting. As noted, the potential for bias here is not lost on me. Duh. However, #1: I am not a member of any Corvette forum #2: there are many members here who own Corvettes: #3 Feel free to post a similar poll on the Corvette Forum and post the results here.
Fair enough.
Ron61: Good points.

JWD: Well, just scanning the threads on the Corvette forum looks like the FGT is the hands down favorite amoungst the Corvette faithful also.
While CC is a Ford orientated forum it is not the www.fordgtforum either. Its obvious what the results there would be. They are so in love with the FGT on the fordgtforum that any cross word about the FGT (if one exists) brings an attack akin to shoving a stick into a hive of killer bees. The are fanatical fans of the FGT and I believe rightly so.
The FGT is that rare kind of car that just crosses brand devotion boundries and zeros in on the core of what the car enthusiast loves (performance, heritage, drop dead gorgeous looks, collectibility etc...) regardless of brand devotion. It has soul and character that allows it to cross boundries and make even Corvette guys want one over the ZR1.
But would I love a ZR1 too. Heck yeah. Awesome car.
PS: Clarkson I believe did re-acquire a FGT. Any issues he may have had were clearly out of the norm. The Top Gear test of the FGT with Jermey Clarkson is one of my favorite episodes. No doubt he LOVED it. His words in the Top Gear test that "This car is epoc" is a classic. The FGT has gained a reputation as phenominal car in both driving experience and reliability. I have friend that has 40 thousand miles on his '06 FGT, tracks it all the time (going through 4 sets of tires over the last few years) and drives it home from the track and uses it to go to Shop Rite and in the rain no less. It still runs and looks like a champ. Its certainly no garage queeen (like mine )
BTW: Based on the tracking of the attrition of FGTs over on the fordgtforum there are approximately only 3000 FGTs left in the US. The rest have been lost to accident or overseas shipment.

I think you'd have to give me a Cobra replica and a ZR1 to even consider passing on the Ford GT. I'd like the twin turbos on the Ford GT though.

Ford GT or Corvette ZR1
In my opinion value for money the ZR1 is a fantastic car, good mpg etc, a bit like the Aussie Monaro one hell of a car they both compete well with their european counterparts. The Ford GT has that timeless look, like the ZR1 they both have cut off rear ends, but the ZR1 looks quite unusual due to the depth of the boot!

Me too. I would like to have a GT (either Ford GT or a Superformance).
Between the GT of any kind and the ZR1, in 5 or 10 years the 'Vette will be "just another 'Vette", but the GT will always be unique.

It's a lot closer over on the SRT/10 site. 32 to 18 in favor of the Ford GT.
To be truthful, I'm somewhat surprised.

I have owned the following Corvette's 1960,1974,1986. I also owned a 1995 Viper. I liked them all and still do. I now own a Everett Morrison 427 Cobra,
I am 55 years old and given the choice to buy the Vette or GT-40. My money is on the GT-40. My opinion is the Corvette and Viper now look too much alike and that destroyed my passion for new Vipers and Corvette's. With the Vette, you will be one of the many VS one of the few. When you sell, you will have one of the many VS one of the few. You will have pride in ownership with both cars but you will most likly get more public thumbs up with the GT-40 and all us car guys appreciate those. I am now buying a 1997 Viper. I go to car meets and see rows of corvettes but I have only seen 4 or five GT-40's.
I dont like to get lost in a see of look alikes. When you pull into the local gathering place on a summer night you will get Oohs and ahas with both but the croud will stop what they are doing and come to the GT-40 first.
Now if it is the croud is all women you dont stand a chance against the vette. It's even worse if the vette is red!
