Default Holley Double Pumper casting failure !!!!!

I don't want to scare everyone out there running a Holley carb, but..............

A few weeks ago I had a steady drip of fuel leaking from one of the main fuel inlets on my Holley 750 DP. When I took the fuel fitting off and inspected the carb, I noticed that the main body of the float was literally breaking apart!!!!

The interior threads had what appeared to be bits of metal or silver sand.

I called Holley and they told me that a limited number of carbs (Unknown #) were sent out to a contract company for casting. In order to cut costs, the company used WAY too much lead in the casting.

As a result, the gasoline actually attacked the casting and began to break it down structurally. The car was built in 2006, but I'm not sure about the year of my carb production.

I sent my entire carb back and Holley confirmed it was one of the faulty castings. A brand new unit is on the way, but now I have to get it re-tuned.

If I did not notice the leak when I did, it would have been very likely to have caused a major engine fire.

I don't believe a recall or TSB was ever issued on this problem.

BEWARE!!!!
