Anyplace besides Cobra Restorers sell side mount E Brake handle and Jag cable?
Does anyplace besides Cobra Restorers sell a side mount E Brake handle and a cable for Jaguar rear setup? Lokar only sells top mount. Does anyone know of a source? I tried Unique, figuring that they use a Jag rear as well, and they say it won't fit my Contemporary. I guess I need a 'universal" type unit. Ideas, anyone? Thanks!

I just installed wilwoods, and used a e-brake cable set from GennieShifter.com It is a street rod item, and in the instructions there are notes about a cable set for jag rear ends. Model numbers are BC-GS1, and BC-UN1. Could be your answer, they had what I needed.

There's a nice Lokar unit available, I think it's 11".

Lokar told me theirs are all top mount, not side mount....

If they have it why not by their's?

Kirkham sells the side mount, if you can afford it. :)
Why not get a Mustang or some other unit and adapt it to your tunnel? You would just need a few parts and maybe fabricate a mounting bracket. Bob |
Hey, I have the side mount Lokar that Nick mentioned, we fabricated a small catch on the bottom to capture the two original sytle cables (I purchased from Roger Bolick, excellent quality) and it looks perfect.
I can snap a photo or two if you are interested, later, karl |
If you're interested, ERA has the handle, cable, bracket and compensator for the XJ rear. About $300 total. I'm not sure the mounting bracket will fit your chassis though. If I knew the center-to-center distance of the main rails I would have a better idea.

I think it's 18" on them Bob.

My rear calipers are Series II XKE Girlings - will your setup work? My old arrangement had the lever assembly mounted to the side of the fiiberglass tunnel, which actuated a cable that had the sheath anchored to the passenger side E brake caliper lever, and the core cable anchored to the driver side E brake caliper lever. Pulling the handle together squeezed the two together (at least in theory, it actually didn't work very well at all) applying the E brake. How does this compensator mechanism work? I appreciate the offer to assist. Thanks. |

I called ERA and they won't sell to non ERA owners. Quote"We are not a parts store." I called Unique and the same quote. I bought from Cobra Restorers and they sent me a Lokar. Very good service. I have not installed it yet. After my motor change I'll cut and paste and make it work.

Tom,
"Strictlypersonl" above is Bob from ERA. I have always gotten the answer you got, but perhaps the policy has changed? Either way I am grateful for Bob's offer of assistance. Thank you, Bob, I really do appreciate it. |

This Alan from Unique Motorcars, we did not give him the same answer ERA gave, we told him our setup would not work with a Contemporary, we have ours made a little different for clearance reasons.

If you can live with the little difference (lever is bent a bit not straight) just search for a Midget handbrake lever in Ebay, they are ratched type and side mount as well. You will get the hardware very close to the sidemount lever sold by Cobrarestorers.
Like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sprite-Midget-...1%7C240%3A1318 Organize yourself a cable and you are done. Greetings from Germany, Uwe |
