New post ranking system at Club Cobra.

This is so that really good and helpful posts get highlighted and make it easy for people to find some of the best posts. It will not be used to shame anyone! That certainly is NOT the intention.

Enjoy!

:)

Brent,

Nice and it works too. Can't wait to see some of the rankings in the political threads.

Our local Cobra Club has a similar feature called "karma." So far its best use has been to irritate Mr. Mustang....

Its a good thing you cannot view a members total ranking by posts. It would be embarrassing.

Brent Mills 03-14-2009 08:46 AM

I should ask...as this is not intended to be a negative thing, but rather to bubble up the really good posts....

Let me know if this is a good thing or not.

Brent Mills 03-14-2009 08:57 AM

Ok, I figured out a better way to use it as I was intending....let me know if this helps folks.

The stats are gone. The bad rank numbers have been increased a long ways. When the ranking of a post increases to a certain threshold it will be highlighted. That was my intent so those posts that help a lot or what have you get highlighted. That way people can find good information quickly.

Brent, would it make sense to have a topic page. If your question is about wheels look in the wheel section, webbers look in carborator section. So many good questions are asked over and over again. I would like to be able to search by past topics for answers. You could still ask your question but maby your answer is in the past topics section?
Thank's

Brent, I'm a bit slow. Can you please explain how it works? I see the plus/minus/neutral buttons.

The buttons affect the individual post or the entire thread?
I can vote once?
Where is the ranking? I don't see it.

thanks.

Brent Mills 03-14-2009 09:53 AM

The only ranking will be if a "post" gets enough to cross a threshold to consider it a really good post. That way we keep it positive.

ive never really liked ranking
another forums which i got banned on uses a rep system
all it does is get people asslicking up to the big bosses that run the website
or get your usual group of buttbuddies who go back and forth ranking or rep eachother
just for their 15 minutes of fame
even the number of posts thing suxs ass sometimes
some people on some forums just put their 2 cents worth just so they have a post count higher than everyone else
if the post is good it should be made a sticky for the month
anyway forums all round the world are the same
i guess thats y i have halved the amount of forum browsing i do

And just where will this positive info be posted? At the top of that thread? Kinda useless as compared to having the ranking on the list of new posts or better yet on a list of a search.

Warren,

Go to the Quick Links and at the very bottom of the drop down it will have a Post Ranking Stats. Click that and you can see which posts have been ranked and how.
Darn Turtle owners are as slow as their pets to learn.

Rather than a POST ranking, I think that THREAD ranking would be better. Right now, there are about 7 individual posts listed on the first page of rankings. This will ultimately make the LISTING a very big and cumbersome file.

Just my $0.02 worth.

But can't you just look at how many posts are on that thread to get a feel for that? A really popular thread is going to have a lot of posts, a not so popular thread, not so many. You can still get a really high post count for a dumb thread though, I suppose; but it's going to be a really popular dumb thread.:3DSMILE:

I agree. I am a member of and mod a couple of other vBulletin sites and the thread ranking is a far better choice.

Ron61 03-18-2009 10:09 AM

There is already and has been for a long time a thread rating system on this site. Look in the lounge and you will see a couple of threads with 4 stars by them which is the highest rating for a thread. So if you want to know if a thread is rated all you have to do is look and see if there are any stars by it when you go to that Forum.

However this does not show the option to rate all threads in many Forums. So I don't know if it is based on number of posts to a thread or how Brent has that set up.

I agree. I am a member of and mod a couple of other vBulletin sites and the thread ranking is a far better choice.

I am also an administrator and moderator on a couple of sites that have nothing to do with cars and I finally took the Thread Ranking off because a Thread with a couple of posts would suddenly be ranked as a top thread. We had a high threshold set, but some members would get together and just vote for a thread no matter what was in it. Same for the post ranking, so how do you propose to eliminate this? I finally disabled both ranking systems because they weren't being used correctly.

Ron
